"Maybe GC needs a system like Barnes & Noble.

At BNG you can look up any book or music. If GC had a system that provided limited links to the manufacturers they carry and had stations located around the sales floor then a sales rep can look up an item when a customer comes asking. Additionally, a customer can look up an item to see what configurations are available and direct the sales rep to place an order for "that one"."

Actually, within the last 6 months, GC has placed a "price portal" in every store. Basically, an internet computer that has links automatically set up to the GC website, as well as most of the main competitors. It's mostly there for customers to make sure they are definitely getting the best deal possible, and to place orders on anything not in the store.

And I know this has been beaten to death already, but as a GC salesperson, one of the first things I was trained was not to talk badly about any of our products. Especially if they already are interested in the high end item. I would not expect to see an employee at GC who acts this way to last very long. Plus, Musicman basses are f'in sweet, what the hell was he thinking?

Dear Mr. Ball,

Having realized (albeit after posting, unfortunately) that my anecdote cast aspersions upon a vital outlet for your fine products, I wish to apologize to the board for unnecessarily complicating a straightforward customer service issue, which fortuitously appears to have been taken quite seriously by the parties involved and brought to a hopefully satisfactory conclusion.

I will in future refrain from commenting in such a fashion as I understand (and should have prior to my faux pas, also) that corporate relationships and public fora do not always benefit from unvarnished truths, no matter how humorously one might think that one is trying to portray them.

The 80s, what a fun time. I was on the road partying at every rock club at night and visiting way too many clinics during the day.

Black guitars/basses are the standard. They look sharp, no matter what pickguard you put on 'em, or what kind of music you play. I'm sure the paint is likely cheaper than anything with a mist or sparkle, so why not churn out a bunch of black basses. Every manufacturer is guilty of it.

I was only suggesting that it may draw some additional attention to those unaware of the reputation that Musicman instruments have.

Based upon the bold part, you seem to be under the impression that Guitar Center sells black instruments because that's what Musicman makes. You have it backwards--Musicman makes so many black guitars/basses because that's what Guitar Center orders. And, they order them because they sell. They aren't making them because black paint is cheaper.
