Schallers are crap. They fall apart way too easily. My guitarists strap fell off a bunch at practice the other day becasue the screw kept coming off.

I've used schallers for several years and IMO they work just fine. You do have to make sure the nut is good and tight on the strap. They have to be more than hand tight. Find which ones you like and stick with one brand. That way all of your straps are interchangable. I have 4 basses with 4 straps and can use any strap with any bass.

Thanks for the tips on the straps.

But it was more fun to talk about mental illness and the benefits of a good ass whooping on a child's behavior. (SLLLLIIIICE as the old wound is opened- or thread)

And good on you for smacking some sense into your kid cgworkman! A little fear never hurt. I can't stand to see these kids out where there parents are saying for the 100th time "I really mean it Spaulding! Put that down! I really mean it!" and the kid is looking at them like, "Dude, if you meant it you would have done something about it a long time ago!". Hollow threats.

My father used (only twice-- but I remember them well) what we called "The Ring Thwop" on me. It really was just a smack upside the head when I did something really stupid (he used the hand with the ring on it). The ring had the added effect of really thwoping you. It really friggin' hurt-- but only for a few minutes. But I didn't screw around with him-- you know?

I listened to what he said becuase I knew that physical pain would be the result of my disobeying him. Anything else doesn't matter to a kid.

No dinner? Ok.

No nintentdo? Ok.

A smack upside the head?-- Welllllllllllll, now we're talking! I'll put this down right here! Hows that?

I don't care how distractable and unfocused a kid is. He will listen if he knows that if he screws around there might be PAIN involved.

But you should never do it when you are angry (at least that is what they say).

Like when Homer Simpson wanted to go buy a gun to shoot someone and the guy at the gun store said he'd have to wait a week Homer said, "But I'm angry nowwwww!"

P

I understand. And within reason discipline is good. I'm lucky though - I have 2 great sons who do well in school and 99% of the time are well behaved. Lucky me...

As far as I know they're not harboring murderous thoughts....

:)

I second the Comfort Strap.

But the leather Levy strap is better for beating my kid.

I say go with the Neotec strap. It's a wider strap where it meets your shoulder. Plus, it's padded and it has that "gel" liner which adds to the padding. Oh so comfy!! Wider = more comfort. Trust me.

Can't go wrong though with using the leather one for a good beating.

I use Levy leather straps on every bass except my big honkin' 6 string ABG. For that, I've got an extra long Comfort strap.

IMHO, you really can't go wrong with either.

short, long, or extra long

good people-

thanks for the advice on the strap. This is all very important stuff.

The Comfort Strapp looks pretty sweet.

It comes in Short, Long and Extra Long-

I'm about 6'2" and like to have it pretty high for slapping (the bass- not my kids. I will look to the Levy straps for that. Thanks for the tip Bovine)

Is the long about the right size?

And as for getting chicks I was already married when I got my bass. But I did play drums in college and the chicks seemed to dig that. But I play music for the groove, man. Not for the ladies.

But I will say this: I have a really sweet Les Paul Standard Honeyburst that I love, but my wife says she likes the SR 4 better. She has good taste.

Stingrays truly are very Ruvrey and Shexey (can I say that? I've been wanting to say that.)

Pete
