I heard from a guy that owns a local guitar store that John Petrucci might leave Ernie Ball and move to PRS but that's not possible...it just wouldn't be fair

I would not believe everything guitar store owners say. I was talking with the owner of a shop who had gone to NAAM this past year and was going to carry Sterling by Musicman and he was telling me how they were not coming to US stores for 2 more months.

The day before, I was at DuBaldos playing a SBMM Silo 20.

I believed nothing the guy told me after that.

Obviously you heard wrong. Everyone already knows he's switching to Washburn and will be playing left handed from now on. That's what the guy at my local store told me, and obviously since he works at a music store he knows everything.

Uhhhh, that's not what I heard. I heard he was going to be playing only folk music from here on out (so obviously no need for Washburn, unless they make acoustics now?) and pursuing a voice-acting career on a couple different Nickelodeon cartoons.

I can’t believe that this is true. Why would he leave - Money? He’s playing the best guitar on the market, that is why my next purchase is a BFR JP6.

That's also what I said, Ernie Ball is like a bolt on version of a PRS, except better and if the neck breaks you don't have to replace the whole guitar

I knew a guy at a music shop that to this day still says that Gene Simmons played bass on the first VH album....I love these so called "experts"

If it didn't come from Big Poppa or JP himself...I don't believe it.

Everyone knows JP is going move to a monastery in Tibet where he's going to take a 20 year vow of silence and meditate for 2000 hours a day until he hits 9,999,999,999,999,999,999 notes per second and a black hole opens around him then destroys the universe.

Nothing is more detrimental to the well-being of a store than employees pulling fast ones on their customers... or being oblivious to the products they are selling.

I think we are witnessing the very reason why several small music stores are going under: if they are unwilling/unable to deliver expert knowledge, help and service within their field of business, there is really no reason whatsoever not to buy from large on-line vendors instead...

Cheers

There was a video a while back I found on YouTube of some Dream Theater recording/rehearsal sessions where JP had a PRS in his mitts (don't know why), but like others have said, some salespeople have lots of "information" that they'll tell you simply because they like hearing the sound of their own voice.

I once had a guy at GC tell me that Ibanez was discontinuing the Ibanez Jem 7V in white... I got nervous because I was thinking about buying one. I called the store later and another salesperson was kind enough to call Ibanez for me and dispel that fear.

JP had a PRS, because his buddy Mark Tremonti gave it to him.
