I'd love to compare the HS vs the HH, I don't slap so spacing isn;t the issue tone is.
To be honest with you on my Sterling HH there is no option I use LESS than the neck pickup solo'd.
I was hoping it would be the warmest option but its not...

I play jazz, blues, classic rock, etc. More warmth? Not sure I can quantify that. I have certain tones in my head that I try to achieve. Many times, a different set of strings works more for me. I really prefer more simple than complex. It's just me and I don't like to have to fiddle too much. Once I get the tone that I'm after, you could remove the knobs and lock the settings as they are and I'd be happy. :)

There's some video of BP playing with Steve Morse and Luke where he's playing a single H Bongo. Check it out and hear for yourself. Here's a link: YouTube - ‪Guitar Center Sessions: Steve Morse & Steve Lukather - "Little Wing" [Part 1]‬‏

Sound is HUGE.

I love that clip! Thanks for posting it....there is a whole mess of good tones going on between those three gents....

You can solo every pickup of the Big Al SSS.

Yeah but do they sound good? The Sterling bridge H is in the sweet spot, the Bongo's isn't... will the Bongo HH have a good singled bridge pickup up like the Sterling? Oh we will see today ! :)

The sweet spot is nice/amazing, but the bridge pup on the Big Al is very 'tight' and articulate, perfect for soloing or having a very middy cutting tone. I personally love it.

In the middle of a song do you change to the bridge pickup solo'd or are you talking about recording. I could see playing around mid song or between songs with a blend but I could see driving a soundman insane switching pickups mid gig.

There's really no one single sweet spot ... not even the
the famous "P-Bass Spot". It's all approximation, unless
you play ONLY open strings all the time. Anywho, plenty
of basses have their bridge humbuggers even closer to
the bridge than the Boingo and soloing these bridge PUs
is rich and musical, not some special effect tone. If you
can locally find a Spector or Warwick dealer, you can
hear what I mean. There are others, but those two
come to mind right now [cuz I play them]. The models I
play are "HS" [in EBMM-speak], and especially on the
Spector [NSJH] the bridge humbugger is crazy close to
the bridge [its "neck" J-PU is really in the P-bass spot !].

I like this Golem guy,
I'll compare the Bongo HH vs Sterling HH quickly tonight b4 busting out for July 4th. I'd be really interested in soloing the pickup at the bridge. I love the Sterling bridge soloed. I don't like the neck pickup solo'd. Of the 5 positions on the switch, solo'd neck I use the least, solod bridge I use the most & the mid position everything in parallel I use 2nd most. I wonder if I'll feel the same with the Bongo HH

I get what you're saying, however, when referencing EBMM basses. The often called "sweet spot" is the specific place that EBMM puts their bridge pickup. The Bongo 5HH from what I understand is the only EBMM that does not have the pickup in the same location as every other EBMM bass with a bridge humbucker. So it is not going to have that same "signature" EBMM bridge pickup tone. It can get close I'm sure. It will still sound great, but it is not identical.

I got the Cabernet.

Just played it with my Epifani Eden rig

Absolutely awesome, wow... the Bongo is for real. It gives the Sterling a run for its money. I'll have a full review up but for now its canoeing.

I'm totally psyched about the Bongo, you guys were VERY right. The piezo is a nice touch, not necessary but awesome.

Wow!

I have both and they are 2 different animals. The SR5H has a more classic thump to it $ the BONGO 5HSP is a BEAST. Blows my old ric, thumb,& eb3 away. All those sounds and more. They are both Great Basses you can't go wrong with either so get both.
