I play jazz, blues, classic rock, etc. More warmth? Not sure I can quantify that. I have certain tones in my head that I try to achieve. Many times, a different set of strings works more for me. I really prefer more simple than complex. It's just me and I don't like to have to fiddle too much. Once I get the tone that I'm after, you could remove the knobs and lock the settings as they are and I'd be happy.
There's some video of BP playing with Steve Morse and Luke where he's playing a single H Bongo. Check it out and hear for yourself. Here's a link: YouTube - Guitar Center Sessions: Steve Morse & Steve Lukather - "Little Wing" [Part 1]
Sound is HUGE.
tunaman4u2;827147. I thought the Big Al bridge pickup couldn't be soloed [/QUOTE said:You can solo every pickup of the Big Al SSS.
You can solo every pickup of the Big Al SSS.
The sweet spot is nice/amazing, but the bridge pup on the Big Al is very 'tight' and articulate, perfect for soloing or having a very middy cutting tone. I personally love it.
.......
The Sterling bridge H is in the sweet spot, the Bongo's isn't...
will the Bongo HH have a good singled bridge pickup up like
the Sterling? Oh we will see today !![]()
There's really no one single sweet spot ... not even the
the famous "P-Bass Spot". It's all approximation, unless
you play ONLY open strings all the time. Anywho, plenty
of basses have their bridge humbuggers even closer to
the bridge than the Boingo and soloing these bridge PUs
is rich and musical, not some special effect tone. If you
can locally find a Spector or Warwick dealer, you can
hear what I mean. There are others, but those two
come to mind right now [cuz I play them]. The models I
play are "HS" [in EBMM-speak], and especially on the
Spector [NSJH] the bridge humbugger is crazy close to
the bridge [its "neck" J-PU is really in the P-bass spot !].
