I'm pulling for the good guys and the system here. I know if I saw my stolen instrument on ebay I would go ahead and bid $10,000 on it just to make sure it stays there until I get the police report.

I'm about ready to bid a million dollars for it.

If my eBay account wasn't already in serious shiite....well, let me see if I can win this thing, by God.

There has to be some way to fix this.

I recall a certain eBayer named... "Fred" or something who dealt with these kinds of things...? ;)

Man, I'm not sure this is the best solution. For sure, anything must be done for J-F to recover his bass, but if you win the bid you'll have to pay for it, and you're not sure at all J-F will be OK to pay for his bass a second time... And at this time, still no news from him (seems not to pop up anywhere on the Net).

The good thing is that now we know where this bass is, and we also know that someone sold it to a pawn shop. If J-F pops up in time, he may be able to recover it, probably with help of police. If he doesn't, anyway now he can prove someone stole it from him, and if laws in Canada are the same as in Europe, the pawn shop MUST have a registry with the name and ID card number of the person who sold them the bass.

The best solution overall should have been different, though. In my case, just after the loss of 3 or 4 teeth, the "drummer friend" would have understood that the replacement of the 28/29 remaining teeth would cost him much more than what he could get out of the sale of the Sterling... Sorry, I don't mean to preach violence, but sometimes, unfortunately, radical solutions are required. Especially in this case which is a monument of cowardise and betrayal.

Cheers
Jay

No luck here...
I tried to phone the 2 listings I found in Montreal for JF Martin, to no avail.
He might live with his parents, he might live "out of town", he might be on
vacation, he might have no internet connection anymore...
This is frustrating, I wish there was something else I could do....
Hey guys, come on, any suggestions?

I found someone called MARTIN, J F in a white pages listing.
This person lives in Kamloops, BC.
Don't know whether this is in the Vancouver surrounding area, though.
If you think this can be a good track, please let me know and I PM you the whole address and phone number.

He wrote to me last year. His email is:

[email protected]

But every time I try to mail him it goes to:

Jean-Frédéric @ Ernie Ball Forums <[email protected]>

You guys may be able to work out what's going on

Right, that's the email address I used yesterday to write to him and add him in my MSN contacts list. No reply yet, but the good thing is the email I sent him did not bounce (over quota or so).

Yep....I know some Canadian fellas that would be happy to accompany us...;)

+million to what Big Poppa said...if he would check in once in a while, he would see his bass and would be able to get it....it pays to be in good hands with Ball State.

My ebay is in good standing. I'm sure if I reported the situation they would pull the auction, but then we wouldn't know the status, and I would hate to push the seller to drop the price in store to get rid of it. If you guys decide we should get the auction pulled let me know, I will be glad to have it done...

2. You can never leave....This poor guy has left the forum and if he stayed he has his bass back!
Maybe he just doesn't feel right visiting anymore since he's no longer a MM owner:confused:

Maybe, but so what's the point of starting a thread about the stolen Sterling ?

No, I definitely think he is off the whole Net and not only here. Hopefully because of vacation, which would be the most positive reason.

He has probably given up on finding this bass, it's been 4 months since his original post about it...
