Has this ever happened to anyone else? I'm not trying to bash TB, but I'm very confused how this happened.

I was WARNED once about bump abuse 2 days ago. I apologized because I actually had no idea that I was abusing ANYTHING. Now I bumped my for sale ad this morning and I got instantly banned? I thought you could BUMP once every 24 hour period, but I guess I misunderstood. :(

I just looked at your profile and is says you've been temp banned. Try again in a day or so.

Still, I mean, it's your thread. You should be able to post as you please.

I'll keep it up for you. I don't give a damn if they ban me. :D

It actually says I'm banned for 30 days? I really appeciate your help, but how can you keep my thread up? DO you mean you will post to it so it stays at the top? How will I get PM's:confused:

I don't want you to get in trouble.:(

Something seems really weird about that. It really is a good place.
I would email the admin and asking them what's up, and explain yourself just like you did in your original post. I see people everyday "bumping" their own for sale threads...I don't see why you got spanked for it.

I bump my FS threads once they drop off to page 2. Sometimes it will take less than 24 hours but I never got any infractions for it. Dunno.

I don't see the problem, the place is filled with noobs who love to talk about gear they don't have and will never get but act like they have it.
After reading threads there for quite a while I knew it was not the place for me.
This opinion is my own, if you don't agree with me TS :D

I must say, it sucks they banned you for that (even if it is tem). Here's a thought, maybe one of the mods wants what your selling but does not have the cash at the moment, so they banned you to give themselves time to raise the funds?

(yeah I'm reaching LOL):D

I tend to agree with the above feelings. If those on talkbass spent half the time they spend on that site practicing, they would be getting a lot more gigs.

I would not feel too bad about being banned there. Consider it a sign. :D

Thanks guys for your posts.

Believe it or not I was really only warned ONE time about multiple bumps. Then out of the blue this morning I bumped my ad and I was instantly banned. If the mod has a problem with me, then he really needs to talk woth me. The guy is actually a member of our ball family forum. I sent him a PM with no response explaining myself. Oh well, I might have the bass sold anyway. :D

This is completely wrong.

I sent you warning #1 on June 12 after cleaning out no less than 17 useless bumps that you had left undeleted, disrecpectfully of the rules.
Sent #2 on June 13. same problem (new bumps, no deletion of previous one).
Sent #3 on June 14.

Your banning is the "natural" consequence of successive warnings.

You have been warned each time (the moderation system pm's you automatically).

So now :

1/ Complain everywhere if you want, including on the Moon, but at least stay honest to people who read what you post, by telling the truth instead of a very personal cover of the facts.

2/ EBMM forums are not TB customer service.

3/ Being a TB supporting member changes nothing : when you decide to support TB, you don't buy the right to infrige the rules.

Sorry everyone, this is not the place for these explanations (though I am not the OP of this thread), but some things had to be cleared.

Cheers !

Each time a user receives an infraction, he is automatically pm'ed by the system.

Believe me, I took all the care that is required :

1/ Found 17 obsolete bumps in his thread, including many that were bump abuse (more than one bump a day - that's the rule at TB) - just sent an infraction with the whole explanations. Jlepre replied to me saying he did not know and that as of now, he would take care of his bumps.

2/ Next day, same thing : new bump, no deletion of previous one. (And yes, I first checked if he had had the time to delete it). New infraction.

3/ Saturday, same thing again.

When a mod gives an infraction, there is no particular consequence. And the infraction expires after some time. The problem is, Jlepre had several infractions in a short time, and the system, such as configured, banned him.

Now please, let's have a closer look at what Jlepre wrote :

Believe it or not I was really only warned ONE time about multiple bumps.

OK, but why did he do it again ? (and actually he was warned TWICE, then banned at the THIRD infraction).
Or, asked a different way : how many times must things be explained to him until he decides to respect them ?

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against him, and to be honest, having been a TB mod for two years now, it's the very first time my mod job leads someone to be banned.

Now, banning someone for some bumps may sound futile. There are things that are more serious : insulting posts, bashing, price questioning, placing ads for a non-supporting member, etc. But I think - and Paul knows my opinion about that - allowing bumps is the nest of tons of problems. This has been the biggest slice of my mod job through these two years. And bump, IMO, and even more when it is bump abuse, is deceptive and disrespectful.

See, you notice an ad for, say, a Dargie Delight SR4. You see there are 35 posts so you decide to read, and what do you see ?

- FS '07 mint SR4 LE Dargie Delight, etc.
- More pics
- "Wow, gorgeous bass !"
- Thanks
- Bump
- Bump
- Bump
- "Wow, nice bass !"
- Thanks
- Bump
- Bump
- Bump

etc...

When 20 over 30 posts on a thread are bumps, other members have the bad feeling of having their time stolen.

Sorry again to have to give these explanations here.
