I know I am repeating myself, but read the back of the OLP headstock. Just read it, Don't "read into it". Where do you see that the product itself is "fully licensed and authorized" ?bassmonkeee said:So, how exactly is a product line that is the brain child of the head of Ernie Ball, and fully licensed and authorized, totally unrelated in any way to EBMM? ...
Yeah, same here. I have at least a half dozen shorties. Partly cuz I like archtops and semi-acoustics, and they can get pretty huge with a 34" scale neck. But I also just like, same as you, that short scale sound, so I also play Fender 30" basses. I play them out. The only shortie that never gigs is the Yamaha 32", a practice mule that lives at my workplace. Speaking of which, it is time for practice. See ya ....Psycho Ward said:Well on the topic of short scale basses, I've got one and I love it!
Is it my main bass, no, just something that is fun to play every now and then. I like the lower tension and what that sounds like. ........
If the presidents of Ford and General Motors, or perhaps Yugo and General Motors are great friends, what then is the connection between their product lines? So they talk shop, share ideas and act on them, but what is the connection between their product lines?Figjam said:Im also confused. I think OLP is quite related to EBMM. What defines 'related' for you? Of course they are not made in the same factory, thats the point. What other connection are they lacking?
Yes but did Mr. president of Ford wake up one morning and go "Im going to release a line of cars under the GM name?"Golem said:If the presidents of Ford and General Motors, or perhaps Yugo and General Motors are great friends, what then is the connection between their product lines? Between EB MM and OLP, which are you saying has released a line of products under the other's name? Or am I missing the question entirely here?Figjam said:Yes but did Mr. president of Ford wake up one morning and go "Im going to release a line of cars under the GM name?"

BigBallz said:"Now fast forward to Monday. Bill Ford announced that his company's "Way Forward" involves closing 14 assembly and parts plants, including the Wixom plant that employs 1,500, and eliminating around 30,000 jobs throughout North America over the next five years."
Fig, I don't think the president of Ford is a good example.....![]()
As in "I hereby grant this man or woman permission to wear a hat that looks just like mine". And what are the offspring of this union, or what would they be [if there are none so far]?Mobay45 said:IMHO, OLP and EBMM are related just as a married couple is related. By contractual agreement.
SteveB said:There were some interesting ideas presented way back at the beginning of this thread.
I'd like to offer this about the OLP / MM relationship.
If any of you are in bands that have ever produced a CD for sale that contained a cover of another artist's song, you'll know this.
If I decided to record my own performance of "Let It Be" and offer it for sale on CD, I would have to get a mechanical license to do it legally. Under the terms of the license, I'd have to pay (it varies, but sometimes somewhere around 4 cents) per unit sold to the copyright holder.
Would that make me a Beatle? No.
Would that make me related to the Beatles? No.
Would I have a business relationship with the copyright holders? Probably, depending upon your view. They may never even know that I exist, because the money handling is done by middlemen (usually the Harry Fox agency in NYC). All they know is that the checks keep coming.
