if EBMM had a custom shop...

There's medicine for that :)

I would love:
Axis hardtail one knob, roasted neck, any transparent color other than the usual. I actually don't think there is a better sounding guitar on the market than the one knob evh/axis hardtail
Morse with roasted maple neck/board and darklord neck specs

How doesn't a hardtail Axis Super sport fit this? Only difference is a tone knob (leave it all the way up) and a 5 way selector instead of a 3 way. I can't believe those 2 would change the tone any.

Not only that, but if it did change the tone, disconnect the pickups from the tone knob and change the selector. Simple fix.

yes it does make a difference (electrically. it's not voodoo/subjective. have you ever tried a tone pot that was defeatable???)
and, uh, last time i checked, this thread was about imagining something custom, not something clearly bought stock and modified.

Maybe we are mincing things, are you saying that having pups not-connected to a tone pot sounds different from not having a tone pot? This isn't a "gang up on dumb old soupcon" moment, so please understand that the intent behind the posts, at least mine, is light-hearted at worst.

I am not sure what you mean by a defeat-able tone pot, but that might be because you are not referring to my post. There could be something that I am completely missing here, in which case I would be happy to learn about it.

Also, I don't think that it is ridiculous that you might want what you want, I think that , again, at least my post was simply thinking that there shouldn't be much stopping you from essentially getting the desired effect.

From experience having owned both plus a hardtail EVH... There is a tone difference between the HT Axis and the HT ASS. I always felt like the Axis and EVH were more aggressive than the ASS and the tone was a little hotter and fuller. Maybe you can rewire an ASS just like the Axis... I don't know, but there is a difference in the stock set up. I always thought the ASS lost a little something when they added the 5 way and tone knob... Even though it gained a whole lot of amazing at the same time. I've often said that my Axis Sport is the best sounding of all of my guitars... There is your ASS wiring!

It may also be that the actual wiring on the Axis HBs changed at the time too. I thought that the EVH and early Axis HBs had slightly different leads that were changed when the Axis Sport and ASS came along to better support coil splitting. To be honest, it's been years since I've really cared about the differences and I'm getting old and tired thanks to chasing a 13mo old around.

As far as "custom shop" guitars go the latest PDNs are really close to what I would order if I could get anything I wanted. Would love to see a BFR Silo Spec some day with a maple top and mahogany tone block... A roasted neck would be the cherry on top. If not, the current PDN Y2D with all maple neck and either the 2012 PDN or 2014 PDN Axis is pretty much perfect.

Yes. The tone pot, even on 10, changes the tone. The guitar becomes a little brighter and a little louder without a tone pot.

Thank you, I was fairly aware of that. I have disconnected all of my bridge hb'ers from the tone pots. I was making, what in retrospect sounds fairly snide, a question/remark in regards to un-attaching vs never having. Either way, the pup is not connected to a tone pot, therefore having the same effect. My question, though innocent at the time, seems so obviously in agreement to my previous and current disposition that my remark could not have come out any other way but offensive. I was wondering if there was something I was missing in having the tone pot in the chain at all, even though it goes through a different pickup.

While I was aware that it does change the tone, the level to which it matters is slightly suspect, though utterly subjective to how much that otherwise small difference matters to your tonal pallet. I, for one, mostly disconnected my tone pots from my bridge hb'er so that I would one less knob to deal with switching between tones on the guitar. I considered the tonal change to be slight and agreeable. I likes my leads bright' n' wailin'!

if you've ever had a no load pot on a guitar, you can compare directly the tone and response with and without. i have. i think it's a pretty big difference. but, as important, i like the layout, switching, and simplicity of the axis HT.

JP13 body spec, in the JP12 color, with a roasted maple wax/oil neck but still a rosewood board and SS frets. I would have a 16" radius too instead of the 20", but that's probably going a bit too far haha

Axis with recessed floating trem. Until then, I'm sticking with my Axis hardtails, which is essentially the perfect rock guitar anyway.

JP6 with 5way switch, and narrower Rosewood neck. And not Basswood-bodied... my guitar plays amazingly well but has very little sustain :( This may not be due to the Basswood, but I do prefer Basswood + Maple/Rosewood or Mahogany + Maple over Basswood on its own.

I'd take a Majesty but with the body shape and bridge of a JPXX (and no pickguard), with the neck profile of a BFR, in the glacial frost (white ?) finish.
