If i could have any two basses it would probably be:

A sterling 4H for that stingrayish sound but a nice fast neck but no pickup to get in the way of slapping

And a bongo 5 HH just for that awesome versatile bongo sound in 5 string version

1. Blue Dawn Bongo 4H

2. Buttercream and Tort 3 coil (Al) Bass

3. And a stingray cos you gotta have a stingray even if your breaking the rules of the thread

I saw your thread title and immediately had an answer but then I read your initial post and saw my answer was invalid. :( ;)

My easy first choice would be the Stingray 5 HH with roundwounds I have now:

My easy second choice would have been a lined fretless Stingray 5 Hp. But if I really can't have that one (again, I'm using a smiley ;)) then I'd go with a fretted Stingray 5 Hp with flats.

EDIT - The original post in this thread was modified to allow fretlesses, so my second choice is what I originally stated - a lined fretless Stingray 5Hp. If it was a honeyburst with a tortise shell pickguard to match the one I have now, even better!

2. SR5 H fretless with roundwounds- DISALLOWED!!

Substitution:

2. SR5 H with roundwounds (which I already have but I'll get the frets removed-ok?)

1.) StingRay 4 HH

Well... because of the rules (no fretless) there's nothing really necessary after that one... but if I have to choose a second one it's really tough... candidates would be:

- StingRay 4 HS (to cover the single coil sounds)
- 2006 StingRay 30th Anniversary (for a big lower midrange and ringing harmonics)
- 1996 StingRay 20th Anniversary (for their very nice upper mid growl)
- 1993 StingRay 4 with 2 Band EQ, (for bridge with mutes and straight pull over saddles)
- Bongo 4 HH Stealth (something completely different)

Can't decide... would probably go for flexibility and take the StingRay 4 HS or play save and take

2.) a classic StingRay 4 H (how boring... I'm disappointed in myself)

BTW, also interesting is that if I could only have one or two, I'd go for more classic colour choices like black and white instead of Desert Gold and Lava Pearl...

uhm... long as you got pau ferro you are (fairly) home safe with roundwounds on a fretless.. i love the mjahhuvvh you get from those!!!

a fretless must be tried with roundwounds and a bongo must be tried with flats!

/end jedi mind trick ;)

I only have one. A Sterling HH 4 w/ rosewood. Fantastic bass!

I would like to add a Sterling H/S 4 with maple or rosewood someday.
