How many of you love your MM bass because:
- It's supremely accurate and every note falls into place.
- It's a tone monster and every note you play makes you a tone monger.
- It's musically correct to play one.

How many of you love your MM basses because:
- It fills in a space recommended by your interior decorator.
- Adding in a few tablas and gathering drums looks 'international'.
- Your guitar technician suggested changing scratch guards can offset redecorating cost by as much as six weeks, depending on colour and texture.

Personally, I have a silver Gemeinhardt flute nailed to the wall in my living room.
I haven't played it for a long while, rendering the pads useless :-/
However, I clean and restring my basses almost daily. I don't give much thought as to how they look, as long as they sound right.
In performance, I'm more concerned about how I look, than how my MM bass looks.
Technician? I deal with a luthier.

How about you?

WTF?!?

What the hell was the purpose of this? This is nothing but 22 seconds of my life wasted....

Why I Play Stingrays

Picture your self on a boat or a river.....in 1976 the bass choices for gigs were pretty slim, Fender, Rickenbacker, Hofner.....(Gibson, Guild if you love the mud thud).

Then all of a sudden, Leo's got this really neat bass, and you try it through the typical 70's rig...what a change. I was hooked for life. I've worn one out, and two are still cooking. It is great to pull out the Bongo to give 'em some rest from time to time...and,

for outdoor night gigs, Bongo's survive the quick onset rain storms the best. They are darn near drip dry!

Timeless, durable, smooth, great funk, slap, easy on the back for 4 hours, on board controls, easy to adjust, , the best tuning machine design ever, get to see the gals at the local pharmacy when I stock up on 9 volts, terrible original cases (the plastic ones), but always great technical support when you need it.

Festival sound men absolutely would vote Stingrays for the best controlable tone.

I love 'em.

I was sitting at home one afternoon in 1978 when my friend Bill, guitar seller to the stars (really) calls me up. "You home? I have a bass you'll like." Ten minutes later, there's Bill with a case, I don't know what's inside, he leaves it with me and says I can pay him whatever if I like it.

Bill was a pretty good buddy, eh?

Inside was a natural Stingray, used but not abused, prolly a good solid 8 or 9 on a scale of 10. Hmmm, I say. What IS this? Why would Bill think this could replace my beloved old Ric 4001 or my solid Precision with a Jazz bridge PU?

So for giggles I took it to rehearsal that night. I played with Motor Skills, a group of seasoned Houston studio/live date guys, and we were sort of a psychoneurotic punk jazz ensemble. All the stuff we couldn't play for money, we played together, and mostly for ourselves (when time allowed).

Anyway, I plugged that thing in to my old Acoustic rig and it was like a fighter plane! Wow! I sold the Ric shortly afterward and have no memory of what became of that poor old Precision.

Jon,

You've just insulted all the trolls out there....

Hey- your pic.... didn't your mom tell you not to listen to heavy metal? See what happens! Seriously, that's the coolest avatar I've yet to see.

Got a quick question.... when did the first piezos get released? I have a Sterling from Feb 2000- was wondering if it's an early one. Had to wait nine months to get it- more than worth the wait though....

thx

He's back...but this time it's Rocket Robin with the space. If he planned on coming back you would think he'd try to disguise himself so he could stay around a little longer. What an idiot. He posted in the string section. It's troll hunting season.
