I've wanted a Sterling 5H for a long, long time. I have a Sterling 4H that doesn't get much play since I went primarily five string a few years back.

I finally found one I like at the right time; it should ship today! It was listed as weighing 9-01, and it has really nice grain:

I have a set of my usual EBMM Group I flats on order; the bass should be here by the end of the week. I'm thinking a black PG will work best on this one.

Woot!

That looks very nice - I traded one beauty of a BFR SR 5 HH for a Sterling 5 HS, and have never regretted it for a moment... I own a fair amount of basses, but my Sterling 5 HS would definitely be one of the last to go...

I played my Sterling 5 HS last night, also - but used a different aproach: I paired it up with a Highway One P Bass with 1/4 pounders... I ran it in single H mode, with the bass boosted a fair amount, and I could switch back and forth between the two without changing anything else... When I pair it up with one of my Jazz basses, I typically run it in position 2 with bass fairly flat, but mids and treble boosted slightly - it balances with them really well that way... IMO, the HS is a really versatile setup - best I've used, and I've had the HH, HS, and H setups...

Just played the Sterling HH today at church & decided to use the position the HS can't get... I think its all outer coils.

This is the PDN Mahogany so its pretty warm. Tone is pretty similar to all inner coils. In a mix I wouldn't be able to tell. The HS SC bridge sound I'd pick out in a mix for sure.

I think the OP is going to REALLY love his 5H. With the maple its going to be an aggressive beast. Parallel full HB will be his best shot at a "warmer" tone.

mine was on the position by the bridge for all but one song when I had it on the middle position. roll off some highs, give the mids and lows a little boost and the rest is in the placement of my right hand. I just picked up an aguilar gs410 and am really enjoying that with my little mark.

If this thing doesn't ship soon I'm going to explode. I do have a nice new set of EBMM Group I flats waiting for it, and a new BWB PG is on the way.

I hate to say it, but assuming this works out (and I have no reason to think that it won't) I'll be GAS free after I get this. I'll have my four Balls, a pair of AmStd P5s and a pair of ThunderChiefs. What else could I possibly want?

Then again, I thought I was GAS free before I found this Sterling 5H... ;)
