Still a long way off but here's the latest photos.
At times it's getting real "forensic" working on certain areas. - Actually polishing "into" dings. At times my heart was in my mouth as certain areas revealed themselves. At times I was revealing a grey undercoat around the area of the trem, the pickups and the knobs. I thought "hell, has there been a repair I'm now exposing?
Before I started this epic transformation I sanded paint off on the bottom of the guitar and revealed this,(see red arrow) and it put me off wanting to do any more. But as time went on I thought "sod it" have a go - if it's beyond redemption I could always get it sprayed another colour (solid black) in nitro celly.

I bought this tool 25 years ago. It is a pen that has a cartridge(where the arrow is) that is made up of very fine glass fibre. As you twist the handle more of the cartridge is exposed. I have used it to (forensically) remove localised areas of paint and to polish "into" dings. I need another or for now some more cartridges. I contacted the manufacturer but haven't had a reply yet.
Does anybody know where I can get another?
Anyway I sometimes smile as the light catches the finish and it changes from Green to purple hee hee!

Ha!! Unfortunately - I have taken 3 weeks off work to decorate the hall and landing of my house -stripping wallpaper instead at the mo!
I'll be having some time on it this week - the front is nearly done and I have to spend some time on the sides - which take a while because of the danger of "breaking through" on the edges.
But hey - thanks for asking - it's good that people are thinking of me!! ha!
oh yeah and I got me another of those "gizmos" shown above.

You know Spud, you could get a relic'd looking going on your JP instead of trying to restore the MD finish all the way. Unless of course, that's not your thing.

I've lived here for 25 years years (mortgage finishes in July !!
), and I've never stripped the wallpaper off. It was cool to see how it was decorated back in the 20's - you can still see where the walls were painted and then stencilled.- it is a HUGE job !!!!

Nah not really - it will have some dings/scratches and swirls but I hope it will be a lot better than the resprayed white finish. It's getting there.

Hi GilzBilz.
I bought this second hand off a gigging musician in the states. He advertised it on this forum and put a link to a youtube video of him playing it on US TV.
A fellow knucklehead Fsmith lived not too far from him and he went to see it. My remit was "I'm not worried about set up issues, dings/dents, just as long as it has potential" Over here you have to pay in the region of £1000 - £1500 for a second hand fully loaded JP6 in Mystic dream.
The guy wanted $650 ono and Fred managed to get him down to $600. (I had $360 dollars when the pound was close to 2:1). Another fellow knucklehead wanted some cd's that were only available in the UK which I got for him so he arranged the postage.
There were 2 Piezo crystals missing so I rebuilt the Piezo system with 6 new saddles and generally(see this link) refurbed it.
The guitar had a Van Halen pickup in it and Fred swopped this over to the original pickup for me.
The guitar has always intrigued me - having been sprayed white and I embarked on this labour of love. I'm getting there!!!
In all it owes me about £520.

Thanks for the backstory, Spud. I've been wondering about why the original owner sprayed white in the first place. Was he just not happy with the mystic dream?
