Sorry BP, I was trying to convey how I think it's ridiculous to suggest that people are going to be confused by the name, given that the giutars are aimed at two completely different price points.

I guess it's true that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.

people thought Epiphone was a bad name too....it was. Squier? Did you know that they used that name because they had limited trademark protection as that was the name of the original string factory in batle creek michigan that CBS bought...Squier Manufacturing?

IT really doesnt matter.....Oh yeah how about Music Man for a name.......I can just picture somebody bringing that up in a marketing brainstroming session today.....

THis whole instant critique of the branding is why you guys are cayenne pepper....

THe important thing to talk about is the quality and commitment to same that the Park family has and their beautiful execution...The samples are scary good.....

I expect all of you to be sending and posting on the gibson forum regarding the tremendous confusion between the epiphone les paul and the Gibson Les Paul

My pbiggest point here is that I have shown you guys somethimg before I showed my customers
Instatly we got jumped on be a vocal few and I addressed it and admittied that we considered it and that our biggest customer Guitar Center insited on the neam. They are going to buy the most.

I then asked that we stop the critique and then blowhards cant keep it in thier pants and start name calling and simulated dealer calls.

Keep beating the dead horse. Its named.....

Oh yeah and then you can call Fender and ask about the squier strat the starcaster strat the mia mij mik mii

Its just a name....

People hated the sub name too

These things seem cool. Can't wait play one.. this looks like an excellent, excellent backup bass/crappy gig bass for me. :)

Ok just saw BP's post.

First, thanks for the peek, man. I love it. :)

I know it's a dead horse man, but..
Sterling By Ernie Ball is less confusing to me than most other names. I did a double take, but I understood it the second time. It took me a week to understand that a standard jazz was a Mexican bass.

Hope this doesn’t perpetuate things as that is not my intent. I just want to give you guys a dealers point of view, a dealer that plans on selling a lot of Sterling by MM instruments.

As a dealer for Music Man basses and a future dealer for Sterling by Music Man I think the name thing will not be a problem. With the vast amounts of information on the web today most customer that come to us are educated on what they are looking for before they even reach the store. (This allows some companies to staff slightly less than knowledgeable salesmen that do a great job at closing and clerking sales.) Because of the information available most customers looking for a Sterling by MM will know the instrument by its model name/number and most will ask for it that way. For the rest of the public that is not interested in educating themselves before a purchase it will be their responsibility to shop at locations that know the products they sell.

Back to the line… Great job! Looks great and I’m sure, because of your word that it plays great. This line will do great!!

BP I can’t wait to see you guys next week and get my hands on the new gear! I have so many questions!!

Sorry if my previous post wound you up... wasn't my intention to be critical of your business decisions, just expressing my confusion at the choice.

Instatly we got jumped on be a vocal few and I addressed it and admittied that we considered it and that our biggest customer Guitar Center insited on the neam. They are going to buy the most.

Thanks for the explanation... if you've posted that info before, I'd missed it. Sorry again.

:)

<edit - just done some reading around and found that you'd posted that in the Sterling thread on the guitar forum, and I'd only noticed this one on the bass forum...>

i never understood the whole fuss around names. People stop thinking about already known ones and focus on newer ones. Here's to trying a Sterling by MM or a Big Al ASAP, i just can't wait to put my hands on those!

p.s. my little phatty synth (Boy did Bob Moog get crap when he named that one, now all you hear is how good the synth is) would definately like to have a Big Al next to it. oh this is the Sterling by MM thread.....and why not, a new guitar too.

We don't care about Gibson or Epiphone (is that Epifone or Epiphany?... )! ;)

Is this a teaser and do we have to wait until after NAMM to get the full details on these?

This looks way cool, and I'm guessing we're looking at something that will make it possible for a lot more people to own MM instruments without sacrificing a lot in performance.

And it meakes perfect sense, especially remembering earlier discussions about the difficulties of increasing production at the EBMM plant in the US. Hell, looking at this whole thing in a longer perspective the whole plant in SLO might be just for artist models and research, with all the regular models manufactured overseas:) And even if that's not the case, I have a feeling the Sterling by Musicman basses will be real serious instruments, just as the SUBs and as opposed to the OLP, which was mostly just inexpensive and good at the price point.

Maybe now I can get myself an MM guitar!

Its a tool to make music, who cares what its called its more about playability reliablity and tone...

This is sort of a gateway instrument for budget minded players, which will hopefully lead them to the full blown US version when they can afford it...seems like a good idea to have it all tied in and have that brand recognition factor going and all that....

Thank you BP for keeping the ideas flowing and really looking at the market to fill a void left by the Subs and (possibly) OLP. These look fantastic and I'm hoping to be able to pick one up as a backup to my Bongo. It'll be the only way I will be able to get the wife to give a green light on it.

Also, the sub I had was incredible! I still haven't seen another that matched it completely. I wish I didn't sell it, but at the time I had no choice financially. I know it's been asked but how do these compare to the SUB and OLP products? I found with the OLPs I tried out that I only found a few I liked. With the Subs I like just about every one I played, but the one I bought was honestly one of the best basses I ever owned!

Again, great job and keep it up!:D

Wow, I come back from out of town for one night and look what I miss. I applaud you BP for introducing the mid line again. Speaking as someone who got taken on both the price and quality of my first bass way back in the early 80's, this is great news for today's beginners and people who want to start off with a quality instrument. I am amazed today at what is available to a new bassist, I wish I could have had something like this when I started.

Again, smart move. I am looking forward to checking one out.

Couldn't agree more! Looking forward to seeing what the price will be in stores around Europe. If the quality and price is ok, then those instruments could even make great back ups or beaters for those who already play "the real thing". I'm looking forward to reading the technical specs regarding woods, hardware and electronic packages used. If the concept is similar to the SUB (same elecronics as original MM line) then this could turn out as a very interesting offering.

Apologies if I missed the answer - any ideas on ETA or pricing info? I'd like a companion for the Sterling in the collection!
