i have already a Steve morse standard guitar, an Albert Lee and a Luke III. even though i love all of them i feel the most comfortable with the steve morse guitar. the neck feels wider and bigger than my Luke III, and heavier and with a wider open sound than my Albert Lee. so i was thinking if i want to spend money in another guitar, why buy a Reflex, Axis or a Silo just for the sake to improve my collection of EBMM guitars? wouldn't be the logic step to have a Steve Morse Y2D or even a Darklord? i guess the Y2D will be similar in sound with the standard minus the middle single coil. and the darklord i guess it will be different playing wise with similar sound, because of the fat neck. but i will love to have a roasted neck! so what do you think guys?? should i go with the Y2D, Darklord, or another EBMM guitar? i see most senior members have the same guitar model with different colors.

Hello Roberto,

I recommend that you pick up a Dark Lord because you really like the Morse, and the roasted necks on the Dark Lords are wonderful. Good luck!

No, it's not too big. If you are playing your Albert Lee comfortably, you will adjust right away. I play the Axis guitars, which are a little less full than the Albert Lee, and I adjusted right away.

I used to own a PRS with the wide-fat carve, and it made my wrist tired after about 45 minutes of playing. I've had no such problems with the Dark Lord neck. I don't tire at all.

So the neck is similar to the Albert Lee? i thought it was bigger! well i like bigger necks but not too big. the AL neck is great and very comfortable. but i'm getting hard time to get used to the small Luke III neck. i guess the Axis is similar to the Luke Neck isn't?

No, the Dark Lord neck is a little fatter than the Albert Lee. Last time I played a Luke, the neck felt like it had a V shape (boat neck). The Axis, Albert, and Dark Lord have a fuller carve than the V shape; more like a rounded C.

I just got my Y2d, granted a PDN one, but there is SIMPLE no replacing the 25th/Reflex. After noodling with the Y2d for a couple hours, they're totally different, feel and tonally.

If you can, try to play a reflex around too, I adore mine.

The answer is simple: YES you have to buy Another morse...and then Another...the madness never stops!

Haven't played the DL but all you hear is praise, and you can find them used At fair prices. Also try the Y2D, its stunning! Then decide for yourself.

Good luck!

I'd grab a 2nd Morse if I found one cheap. I'd experiment with the pickups on it though as mine are original. It would be cool to test our some others

i can´t see any reason, what would be wrong to go for another SM or Y2D...(just at a look at my signature ;) )
the Y2D has more top-end sound and more bite compared to the regular morse, which comes from the maple top on the guitar.
i prefer the Y2D over the regular model, because of that fact.

the Dark Lord is a converted Y2D - soundwise it´s the nearly the same (the thicker neck gives you more punch and a fatter sound) and yes, the neck is different.
it´s based on a 1959 les paul, so it is fat, but comfortably rounded. it is not like playing another morse guitar, it´s a different guitar, but with the same layout and very close sounding to the original.

I definitely will get a Y2D (tobacco burst) or a Darklord. i will have to flip up a coin to see which one i will get. right now i have a potential buyer for my LIII which it doesn't seem to bond with me. if i sell it, i will probably get both Morse guitars :)
