So I technically don't have a REAL BFR?

Yes, you do!
You have a JP with rosewood neck and BFR inlay don't you?! It's a BFR!

But as you know, it is different to other BFRs available.

Your's has a bass wood body and rosewood neck.
But other BFRs are alder body, mahogany neck and tone block.
The other variation is mahogany body and neck, with koa top... They're all good, all different.

A little of topic:
What do I need to buy to have installed a push/pull pot on my JP fully loaded?
Is that a complicate operation , any risks in doing it?

thanx a lot :D

basically you only need to buy a right push/pull potentiometer and then replace the current tone pot (or volume if prefer). Just make sure that you have the correct wirings.

The process itself is simple: desolder some wires, remove old pot, install new one, resolder some wires...

Here's an older topic where you can check the wiring diagram:

Edit: I corrected few typos and added the link....

I just read the topic behind the link I posted, and one question came in to my mind:

What the push/pull-pot does in BFR model (option 1, 2 or something else)?

"NORMAL" SETUP:

1. bridge (HB)
2. bridge + neck (w/coil split)
3. neck (HB)

BFR OPTION 1:

(pot pushed):
1. bridge (split)
2. bridge + neck (split)
3. neck (split)

(pot pulled):
1. bridge (HB)
2. bridge + neck (HB)
3. neck (HB)

BFR OPTION 2:

(pot pushed):
1. bridge (HB)
2. bridge + neck (split)
3. neck (HB)

(pot pulled):
1. bridge (split)
2. bridge + neck (split)
3. neck (split)

If it works like in option 1 you cannot change from one humbucker to middle coil split mode with one switch, which I think is a problem...

On the JP BFR with the the toggle switch in the middle postion and the push/pull pot down, the inside coil of each humbucker is activated in parallel. With the pot pulled up both humbuckers are fully activated. The push/pull pot has no affect if the pickup switch is in either postion 1 or 3.

thx a lot Heka!
is their a certain push/pull pot that I sould buy, or any kind will do the job.
I will not do it myself, so as I understand I just have to give the tech the wiring diagram on the link, and he'll know how to do the job right? :D

best regards,
paul

I guess the easiest way to look at it is if it has the forearm scoop, then it does not have a push/pull. If the forearm contour is slightly rounded and not scooped, then it does have a push pull.

OR, if your JP guitar has a figured (flame or quilt) top, you have the push/pull.

So what does a Luke Koa have that other Lukes don't (besides finished neck and gold hardware)?

(if this is a hijack, sorry.....but my name allows it)

mahoghany tone block?

I think both the JP and Luke Koa's have no tone block as the body itself is mahogany.

Pretty sure that will also have a push/pull. :D

I think he meant in regards to the fact that the Dargie JP BFR doesn't have a figured top but still has a push/pull.

I know Jonah. Just being difficult. :p The DDII BFR's *DO* still have a maple top, though. You just can't see it under that killer Caramel Apple Delight finish.

Sorry, I'm a bit delirious today. The baby had a bad night and the Yankees caused me a minor (ok, it was major) freakout as well.

Was I at least right about the Koa bodies not having tone blocks?

I think so. It would make sense. Why have a tone block made out of the same material as the body?

Luke BFR --- Koa
Ball Family Reserve
Tobacco Burst finish
Koa top
Mahogany body
Mahogany neck (finished)
Ebony Fretboard
Tremolo

That's what's listed on the one at DuBaldo's. Just wondering if there's some secret feature that I need to know that the stamp on the headstock is aligned with the tuners instead of the neck or that the serial number backwards and converted to notes sounds like the Africa intro.....or something.... :D
