I just got the G&L Tribute L2500 that I ordered from MF. Can't wait to get it home and play it. I won't get a chance until late tonight since I have to play trumpet at a rehearsal as soon as I get off work.

Wow, looks great. I have always been curious to know how the tributes play and are built. It looks good from the pics. Please let us know how it plays and how it sounds. If there is anything to compare it to sound wise, I would like to know.

congrats

Ditto. Plus, G&L's are like in-law's to MM's!

beautiful

I'm digging on the strings-thru bridge. Very Pre-EB.

Beautiful looking bass.

What is the relation to MM? Was this company founded by Fender?

Are those humbuckers pretty similar to the MM humbucker?

Congrats and I'm looking forward to hearing the report on the sound.

G&L was the last company Mr. Fender worked in.

Fender -> MM -> G&L

I've never played a G&L - I'm really curious and would like to try 'em out. But I firmly believe MM has the best of the Fender-designed basses.

really nice one:) I didn'tk new the tributes were that beautifull. I recently played a G&L L2000 and was really surprised by the sound of it. I heard tributes come prety close and play almost as well, so I'm really interested in one. I'm thinking of selling my warwick Corvette and getting one of those tribute 5ers.

But what about the neck, is it like a stingray big and wide? because that's what I want, and so far, the stingray neck is the most comfortable I have ever played.

btw: If anyone wants to buy an active corvette?:D

There was a guy called NICK around here until recently and he had a passion for Warwicks!

Good morning.

Thank you. I've read a lot of questions and comments this morning and will try to answer as many as possible.

The fit and finish on this bass is really good. Maybe just a bit shy of my 'ray, but not much. I only got to spend a few minutes playing it and I could only play through my Hartke KB 15. It has many sounds available but I found that the one I liked was playing through both p'ups in series with the pre-amp on. Bass was full on and the treble setting was about half on. Since my stage rig "lives" on the other side of town 35 minutes away, I won't get to play it through it until next Friday.

The neck is "unfinished" and is really straight and smooth. The back of the neck is kind of flat in the middle and has a good feel to it. The one thing I will have to get used to is the fact that the string spacing is tighter than my other basses. It's definitely something I can work around though. I ended up paying $575 w/shipping and a gig bag from MF.

Basspastor, I think I will keep the stock knobs for a while, but thanks for the suggestion.

This is certainly not a replacement for a SR5, but I think it is a good alternative until I can afford a new SR5. I would have considered a SUB 5, but I just don't like anything about the appearance of it. The SUB has a great look for some of the younger players, but for us old guys I think the classic look of the G&L is a better choice.

My apologies to those that own one, but I did own an OLP 5 for about a day and took it back to GC. It was nowhere near the bass this one is.

yeah, I know him, and his reputation (oh boy, was he 'cool':D )
But actually I'm looking to sell it in here in Belgium, because shipping it would be to expensive I guess.

Anyway, about the G&L Tribute, you think the bass is able to play some metal with it? I know it's great for all kinds of rock, funk, and stuff like that, but is at any good for metal? I know the Stingray sounds great for metal (I know, not the average metal bass, but it souns great for it).
So actually, I need a versatile bass (as I play oldies rock, some funk, metal & progressive) with a very solid neck, so I can frequently change tunings

It may be too clean for metal. The 'ray can get a dirtier sound, but since I don't play metal, it works for me.

The guy I talk to yesterday said about the same ..it's a verry versatile bass ..but if you want to play hard punk and metal it's maybe not what you are looking for

talking about clean ... that's one great clean tone ! when the guy played with it yesterday we could hear every notes cutting through the band's sound it was great !
