Eddie eventually pisses-off everybody he deals with!!! it is no surprise to me! these new charvel guitars that he is doing now are nothing special either!

the EBMM are the best EVH guitar ever made...and i think over the next 10 years, will be the most valueable EVH guitar of all time!

i got caught up in the hype and ordered one of those new charvels! as soon as i get it, it will be going up on ebay!!!

i love my EBMM EVH, and that charvel will most certainly not hold a candle to it!!!

Pro musicians endorsing certain gear changes as often as they change underware. PV has had a good run with Ed, now they need to focus on someone else and get over it. Music Man is still in business, so PV will do fine too. There are musicians who get paid to take a picture with one brand and then when you see them on stage , it's a completely different guitar or amp. It's all about cash folks! There is NO loyalty. Such as with pro sports teams. They think nothing of trading you elsewhere at anytime. But I do agree with Wargmaster, I'm surprised it took him this long to leave PV.

I think the problem with Peavey and their guitars is that they put all their efforts into the Wolfgang. EBMM had a more varied stable and concentrated on finding great guitarists for endorsements (okay Benji Madden might be pushing it).

Ed left EBMM but they still had Morse, Lee, I think Lukather was on when Ed left , not sure about Petrucci.

Somehow Peavey guitars without Ed does not have the same buzz.

In any case Peavey's amp division should be okay - they had a quality name in amps long before Ed got there.

You could be right and on some level I agree with you about the guitar end of it.

They have Satriani and the JSX now in addition to the XXX and are continuing the 5150 in the 6505. The Classic series is a rock solid amp line; perhaps the best kept secret in the industry. The Bandit is a monster for what it is.

Even with Ed, Peavy guitars suffered from the misunderstanding (IMO) that they are only beginner quality guitars. I frequently see references made to, "No way am I going to pay over $1k for a Peavey." That implies that they are only capable of making base model, beginner quality guitars.

EVH and the Wolfgang went a long way towards dispelling this idea but it still lingers. I agree that a big named guitar face would help continue what Ed started with PV. The Steve Cropper model is a good guitar but kids don't know who Steve Cropper is and for a Tele, the Croppper Classic just isn't "classic" enough or rock enough to be successful on a wide scale. They had good products prior to Ed in the guitar dept. The T-60 isn't my cup of tea but it is a good product. The Vandenburg was a good product. Currently, the HP seems like a good offering but I'm not sure it's selling very well for reasons you've already discussed.

EBMM has set itself apart from the likes of PV from the standpoint that they only offer High end or at least middle level workhorse but professional quality guitars. They have the OLP thing going but can easily put distance between themselves and OLP since they've only licensed their designs to OLP. Thus, folks only associate EBMM with high quality and not some high quality and some beginner quality gear.

There's no question in my mind that EBMM has "it" going on. Good stuff. I just find it interesting how each company has an aura as perceived by the public. Some of it is the responsibility of the company yet some of it just takes on a life of its own and nothing a company does can really change how they are percieved.

Ed being with PV even changed people's perceptions of Ed. That wouldn't have been the case if he'd gone with Marshall and stayed with EBMM.

We guitar players are a fickle, funny bunch.

i think the problem for peavey is the middle aged guitar player is the demographic that has enough money to buy the higher priced guitars and most of us associate peavey with the products from our youth which for them were not good. they are making good products now but its hard to shake that image. where as with music man they have always been known for quality before and after ed. lets be honest when we were growing up peavey's were not the guitars of our dreams.

I'm with BlueBullet, Peavey were never known for high quality guitars. Until Ed joined them no one would have ever thought of paying $$$ for a PV. I hope the new Carina(sp?) works out well. If they can keep the basic shape and specs, and reopen the custom shop. I think they will have a huge hit with that guitar(hopefully prices will drop a little too). As for the Charvel thing, I am guilty I have both a RWB, and a Hand striped WB. Since I only play for myself I don't have to worry about public opinion of me, but I do think the market for the striped guitars is very very limited. I can almost gurantee they will probably produce a updated Wolfgang style guitar, and since Charvel/Jackson does have a 1st rate Custom Shop, the options should be awesome. I'm looking forward to see whats in store. for all companies, EB, Charvel, and PV. They all produce items that I like.

Sad but true, in the earlier eighties when I got playing, Peavey was gear I wouldn't look at. Now I would for sure, and partly because Steve Morse plays the 5150 every day and EVH designnig that amp. Haven't looked at their guitars though, I've got bad G.A.S. already.

Hey!!

Since they have to drop the 5150 name for 6505, and they DON'T have to pay his nibs some $$$ every time they sell one, maybe we can see a price reduction on that amp. It would really be a good show of integrity for Peavey.

For some reason PV has removed the press release. Good thing I copied it. If you haven't read it yet you can read it here

In the thread that I merged this with/deleted, I made the prediction that people would see this as an opportunity to try and jack up their 5150 sales because this is a "collector's item".

I must have a crystal ball: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=38076&item=3777446215&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

Oh no it's started. THATS IT!!!!! I'm gonna sell my Wolfgangs and cash in, Collector item, only 10 million made!!!

Love the 5150 line, hate the Wolfgang, only bought them cause they were going for so cheap.

Maybe Peavey could get Steve Morse to do a Signiture model amp, since he used to use the 5150.

Still does; he uses a 5150II and 5150 cabs.

So l guess he will just use the 6505 (is that what the new 5150 amps called?)

I think he has different speakers in his 5150 cabs, l think l read that on his website.

That's pretty funny!

Eddie was a great player, but I never cared a lot for the signature Eddie gear. The EB EVH's were very nice, but personally I think that was because they were EB guitars rather than being Eddie gear. The Peavey 5050's sounded horrible to me. I picked one up used once at an unbelieveably good price and still had to get rid of it for lack of a decent sound. (of course that's only my opinion). I've never owned a Wolfgang so I really can't comment on them. It wouldn't surprise me at all though to see Marshall do an EddieAmp. Personally I think it could be a lot nicer amp than the Peavy.

With all this talk, I have the one solution for Eddie:

USE THE GEAR YOU HAD TO BEGIN WITH! IT WAS "THE" SOUND AND IT HOLDS IT'S OWN EVEN TODAY!!!! You are a bazillionaire and don't need the freakin' money, so stop brand jumping!
