Hi everybody.

Just wanted to share my excitement with all of you MM owners. After lots of e-mails and phone calls trying to find a MM dealer for Colombia, I finally could order my new Bongo bass. I sent a 50% advance to Consolidated Music in Miami and they've just ordered a brand new Bongo to EBMM according to my requirements: A lava pearl 5-string MM Bongo with white ice pickguard and Humbucker-Single coil-Piezo pickup configuration. They told me that it will take like 4 months to get the job done. That's OK for me because in the meantime I can save the other 50%, but waiting is really hard.

A question about pickup configuration: This was the most difficult part to decide (aside from lava pearl or desert gold colors). I chose this because:

1. A humbucker in neck position feels uncomfortable for slapping.
2. I liked the "having all possible pickups in one bass" concept. Sounds the most versatile to me.

But, in general, I've seen that people tend to favor the HH configuration more. Of course I cannot perform a test (I'm pretty sure that it will become the first Bongo in my country, BTW), so I'd like to hear pros and cons of every pickup configuration (don't forget the piezos) from you Bongo owners.

Thank you in advance. And every attempt to calm my nervousness is welcome! :)

!Felicitaciones, amigo!

I'm sorry I haven't answered that last email....I was out of the country for a while and then out of town for two weeks (working) and then Christmas came along and my suegros are here and......well, you know.

As for your questions: I have a Bongo 4 with the humbucker-single coil configuration and like it just fine. Listening to it solo, it always seems a little more 'polite' but in a band situation, it really sounds great. I think you're going to like it.

Plus, yours has the piezo, which will add even more versatility. One of the members here (bassmonkee) has a piezo-equipped fiver and will be able to tell you more than can I.

We'll be waiting with you. How's the weather in Colombia?

Hi, Jack.

Thank you for your reply. You can't imagine how excited I am about my Bongo. Right now I'm thinking of getting a desert gold / black pearloid fretless 5-string Bongo for 2006! I want to take advantage of this thread to say "thank you" for your support. Weather here is fine. In fact, one of the things I love from my city is that it has the second best weather in the country, being Medellín first.

Thank you again! Next four months will be tough, but fortunately I'm patient.

Jon, by the way is that your household pet on your avatar? Or is that the guard dog at the EB shop?

The single coil pickup is in the same position as the neck coil of the humbucker, so it might still get in the way.
