Jerry does not play our stuff...old news the post above is correct.

We made a bunch of prototypes for John Mayer this year...it was looking very promising and then it sort of fell apart.... It wasn't something that I could talk about at the time. There are no issues and he still is a string endorsee....I think PRS is prototyping currently with JM

That's too bad. Who knows, maybe it'll come back around.

JM & PRS? Bleck. That's like Jimi Hendrix playing a banjo. Just my opinion.

Any chance of seeing the prototypes, purely out of curiosity?

I saw on John Mayers Page he has a PRS sig in development, it has a LOT of switches but apart form that looks like any other PRS, lovely but not as exciting as a MM sig would have been I am sure!!!

Definitely NOT a big JM fan, but respect the heck out of his songwriting skills and talent as a player. For the life of me I can't see anything between him and PRS other than $$$$$.

I just don't see a fit, since he was pretty much a strat guy through and through for the bulk of his career. EBMM would have been a solid next step for him, I'm sorry it didn't work out. His loss. . .

He's been jumping around a lot with different brands lately. He swooped up a sweet pink Jackson Soloist re-issue from Wild West a couple of months ago and played it on Fallon, I believe. Bummer this didn't work out. I'm sure PRS threw a ton of dough his way and it was hard to say no.

I also vote for showing us some prototypes! :)

Whoa...I appreciate the support but lets not guess...First off PRS is an unbelievable builder of incredible guitars. I dont believe that Paul needs to throw money at anyone...John Mayer has a ton of everything including money. John Mayer is looking for a new direction and Paul is satisfying it.

Lets not bash the very few great American builders or players we have left. I have nothing but respect for PRS and John Mayer
We aren't always going to win. We didn't this time but it is all good. We have so much on tap for 2016 it's scary

Thanks, I didn't knew about that, too bad. It would've been awesome to see an actual JM EBMM Guitar. /:

If you let me, I want to ask you something. Was it something new? I mean, the body of the prototypes.
Or he went like, "I want this model with this color with this and that" or was something completely new, from scratch?
I hope I don't get in trouble just by asking this.

And Yes, He's been working with PRS, I saw a video of him playing a Prototype PRS Guitar.

Thanks for Reading.

BP, I wasn't being critical of PRS at all. Just to be clear. :)

Based on the conversation, wouldn't it be more of a boon to the company if John Mayer simply played an EBMM guitar during a concert as opposed to having a signature model?

I'm sure he doesn't want his sound to be pigeon-holed into [enter guitar brand here] only. I'd rather see him considered as a Joe Walsh type of player, who has a distinct style regardless of what guitar he plays.

The sound coming out of the amp over the signature on the headstock.

Prs does make some good guitars, but you aren't going to get stainless steel frets or pay less than $3000 for one. Not sure how buyers will justify the fender price which I believe was $1600 to what it will be. I can think of a couple of manufacturers that would have been a good fit for him. Musicman is good at quality, affordability, and product life cycle. I would have been interested to see where it would have gone. It seems like he likes real punchy pickups and fat necks.

Nothing stops any artist that isnt contractually bound to play any guitar. Thats easy. This is about an artist that is seeking a signature relationship.

I cant tell you what we worked on specifically as it was together with John and it would be inappropriate for me to disclose any work that he was involved in that was unfinished. It was all over the spectrum.

Too bad. Great artist/mega talent. He would have been a great dignitary & ambassador for EBMM. Would love to know what that prototype was like.
