eddie played ebmm and what is he playing now??
Somehow I don't think this is due to the quality of the instruments. I would say that his decision to change was purely a business one.

I wonder how many J-Customs and USA Customs you've played? I've owned both J-Customs and USA Customs and they are not substantively superior to the Jems in terms of quality. Frankly, AxSport4me, if all you want to do is stir up trouble I personally would appreciate it if you took it somewhere else. This is getting tiresome, imho...

Jimi press that button ;) and IMO the topic of this thread is quite interesting but AxSport4me just seems to convince us that EBMM are bad and others are few classes higher. That's my impression and of course I might be wrong

Peace to all, Philip

He hasn't convinced me, but I do wonder why he is saying that. I'm just putting it down to being young.

But the Pet guitars are no match for the Ibanez J-Custom and USA Custom guitars!!!!!

Stop trippin' broseph! Hold yourself down son!

<-----Johnny PostCount! I know what i'm talking about here...

I tend to disagree wholeheartedly with your statement and not just because I'm an elderstatesman of this board...

I still have 2 Ibanez in my collection, one a Prestige 7 and the other a 5 string RDGR bass...and neither of them match fit and finish on the EBMM's (I have FOUR, and 3 are JPs!)...and trust me, I've owned multiples over the years of pretty much ever maker out there...PRS can't touch the feel or quality of the EBMMs, neither can anyone...even my older USA customs and upperline RG's...or my buddy Mike's Jems...

Bottomline Japanese Assemblyline doesn't equal EBMM's attention to detail....someone lock this up!

I used to own a couple of Ibanezee J CUSTOM guitars and I agree with Jimi D, they are not substantively superior to the JEMS and PGMS in terms of quality.
After I tried the JP6, I sold all my Japanesee guitars(ESP for sale now :D ).
I am playing EBMM Silhouette & JP6 right now, they just sound best to me and have amazing fretwork.

I can give you a good opinion since I own neither! :(
However I will be buying a few EBMMs when the time comes! :D

I think the answer to your question should be this. Forget about the players for one moment except for the fact that JP use to play an Ibanez and what is he playing now!?!? ;)
But look at the 2 companies as a whole. Quality. No comparison. Entry level Ibnzzz are crap in my opinion. The player at the top of the heap is very talented, but is a sponsor to get your attention to buy more guitars.
In the case of EBMM the player is a key component to the development of the end product.
EBMMs entry level guitar the SUB 1 is still an amazing piece of equipment that reeks quality.
Do you honestly think that the phrase "Welcome to the Addiction" would be coined @ Ibanez?
Or do you think Ernie1966 would buy an Ibanez in every colour?
The answer.
NOT!!!!!

Fogman....you owe me a nickel... ;)

I wanted to stay out of this one, but it looks like I can't...if the Ibanez you speak of is better than the Pet...then it is a guitar made by God himself. I've never played a Steve Vai signature Ibanez, but I do own 3- 7 string guitars, including the Pet. All USA made. One, a custom limited has a list price comparable to the Pet with Duncan SH-8 Invader pups, the other, a hand made custom one off with EMG 707's has a list price at over twice that of the Pet's price, yet neither guitar plays even remotely similar to my Petrucci...in fact they aren't even in the same ballpark. Now I'm not making excuses here but the Pet's only been around for a few years, while the IBZ Vai model has had many years to perfect its playability and tone, etc. Comparing the two should be considered an honor. Also note that either guitar may have had a poor set up. When I first went to buy my Pet, the action was so high I couldn't play it...so I left angry, figuring I wasn't going to dish out money for it...but after I calmed down, I knew what kind of company Ernie Ball was, so I just purchased it, and set it up myself. Again I am not familiar with the bridge on the Vai model, and I am not knocking it...I know what it does, I can here what Steve Vai does with it (if it is the same guitar), what I do know is, that I have never, ever seen a floating trem with individual saddle height adjustments like the JP has...never. So now the radius of the neck can be maintained without having to use shims. I always wanted a professional guitar...and now I have one. A guitar that plays and sounds better than this one...well hell then I don't think I want it, cause I'm having a hell of a time with this one :D

If you care to listen, I have a compared the three for other doubters out there...and even though the recording and playing is cheesy, and for the fact that I LOVED those two other guitars, I believe the PET not only sounds better, but I can play things with a hell of a lot less effort. In order Wahburn Sonic 7, Wayne Custom/Special and finally EBMM JP7.

Hi Raz, What amp/FX are you using on that?

Colin
Well it's not my normal tone, I was asked for a heavier metal sound for the original comparison. For this task I pulled out my Rocctron Metal Planet. I used a compressor, into the Metal Planet, into a Boss ME- 50(with chorus and light delay) direct into a Hughes and Kettner 212(clean only). Then in the effects loop I use a Behringer V Amp 2.0 (to color and thicken the solid state amp) and an EQ pedal. Like I said I don't use the Metal Planet anymore, but for this task...

Thanks!! No, it was done by Herc Fede. With matching headstock. And it looks a lot better in person than in that bad pic. And it glows in the dark too. :D

was about to watch Live 8 last night when hopping around the dial, I stumbled on Steve Vai doing a B&W interview talking about Favored Nations, Make A Noise foundation, and some vidoe clips of him playing.

Had to miss the hip hop portion of live 8.
No Big Whup.
