I think he should go over to Jemsite for a while; they have lots of great Ibanez afficionados there - tons of cool info and many really great people...

+1 good idea

I think there's a stronger comparison between the Satriani Ibanez and the Petrucci... the Jem is an odd sort of guitar. the Satch is more in the style that the Petrucci is - 2 PU's, double cutaway, trem... the Jem has a very different neck, a more complex PU switching system all over a different feel...

that having been said... for me; I prefer the Petrucci. why spend $1200 on a samick that says Ibanez on the headstock, when you can have a piece of hardware like the petrucci?

I quite like the Jem, though. even if it is an Ibanez.

I'm just going to sort of overview here....

I have the Ibanez and the MM Petrucci. I don't know how many time's I've been playing the Ibanez, struggling with a part, picked up the MM and nailed it. There is absolutely a difference in build quality. The MM wins with the Ibanez still being high up there. There is an tremendous difference in playability. 10s on the MM feel like 9s on the Ibanez and 9s on the MM feel so easy to play it's not even fair. lol. The MM wins. Sound? Well, the Ibanez wins because I like the Air Norton and Steve's Special better, but accoustically the MM resonates way louder and longer. Tie. J Customs I've played... Not even close to WAY better than the MM. My JPM is easily as nice and well built as any J Custom I've ever seen or played.

I've also played quite a few Jems. Someone mentioned the neck too thin.... The neck on the JEM is thicker than either the Ibanez or the MM JPM models. It's also wider. The JEM feels like a 2 by 4 in comparison but it's still nice. Steve has big hands and is the reason for the bigger than normal Ibanez neck. Although the old Wizard is the same thickness but wider and the new Wizard is till thicker than my Jackson's neck. Except for the Jem, JS, and the JPM, I do not like Ibanez necks! They are too big all the way around. If they are not too thick, they are too wide.

Jem's are also JCustom caliber in their build... especially post AANJ. The Japanese signature model guitars were never built the same way the Japanese regular line was even though both are significantly better than the Korean Ibzs With the family fued between Hoshino and Gakki.... Ibanez quality is suffering greatly today.

I like both guitars. Ibanez has made some really nice, quality guitars no doubt. But, MM has more in common with Mcinturff and Suhr than Ibanez or Gibson. The build quality is better although Ibanez will pop out a few equal quality guitars from time to time but you never know if you're getting it when you order....

As for players....

Both are pretty darn equal. I'm a huge fan of both of them and when someone talks about JP's limitations, one can answer with the sheer amount that Vai uses the Lydian mode. I don't really consider either a weakness as both can pull off anything they'd ever need to and just have radically different writing styles. Tell me JP couldn't learn Vai's songs and vice versa.

Wow nice informative post, and spoken like a true gentleman. I think its difficult to compare the two players, based on the fact that one is more of a solo artist/instrumentalist while the other, although in a very progressive atmosphere, still has to play with a band and a vocalist...no excuses just not a fair comparison. But hey I don't think John minds being compared to Vai...hell if someone said I smelled like Steve's bathroom slippers I would be very appreciative :D

And still you go on.........I could care less about the title you bare! Kick me off the forum....i don`t care,i wasn`t coming back anyway. It was fun while it lasted and there are some very nice people here,to those, take care and never stop playing. :)

Good, then you won't mind that I just 86'ed your ass.

I have neither the time, nor the inclination to read this useless dribble coming from your keyboard. You don't come around here and preach your "gospel" about one guitar being better than another, and either get pissed off when no one agrees with you, or you belittle and sacrilege other people's thoughts because they don't line up with yours. If we want that kind of thinking around here, then we'll all start reading the LA and NY Times.

You have an opinion, voice it. Feel free...that's what EBMM, JimiD and I welcome and encourage wholly. You better be mature enough to take flak on your thinking/mindset/reasoning, etc., and be adult enough to welcome opposing views. Otherwise, peace out in the entire hizzouse.

This is reminiscent of the cat last year spouting off about how the Wolfgang is SO much better than the Axis/EVH, and that the EBMM was such an inferior product. As was the case before, it is a waste of the forum's time, as well as a waste of bandwidth to continue on with this issue.

I'll dig up his email address for you, and you two should be in good company.

In the meantime, life here goes on without bashing....person banned, thread closed, issue over.

End of line.

I think all of y'all need to lighten up a bit. Sure, this is the EB/MM forum and you guys are a rabid bunch of fans, but there are other opinions out there, and I think that hearing other opinions is good! I have also lifted the ban, so please just listen to other people. You may not agree, but please show some respect.

If any of you have a problem with this, my email is available to you.

Watch it, Jon.
Darrell just might make you next. (Is that possible?)
;)

Different guitars sound different and people's ideas of the tones they want to hear are their own, I never saw anything wrong with any of that.

In fact, I'm sure if you ask ernie1966, he'd tell you that not all of his JP's sound the same. My Lukes sound different from eachother. The best feeling and playing one, the blue dawn, doesn't sound as good to my ears as my other 2.

If the guitars we play make us happy, especially after a/b ing them, what else matters?

I was trying to post last night, but was closed ...........

I don't think that opinions that are not the same deserve to be locked.
Just explain your ideas and experiences and grow a little with the discussion.

Im my point of view, I have more feedback with Ibanez and Jems than with EB, I think that Jems, to ME, are more comfortable to play, but Music Man sound better.
Jems just suit my hands better at this moment.

But the quality controll is zero like Jimi D said. Some are very good (and my stay in tune even with tremolo abuse), but other are crap.
In ERMM this seems to be more stable and constant, and like some here said, the customer support is better.

AT this item, I have tried to talk with some guys at Ibanez and they seems to speak only Japanese, heheheheh, no contact, nothing..............

Unfortunatelly, EBMM are not easy to find here and Ibanez are mass produced, so you can find them in a way or another, but NOT easy to find high models too.

I have to bring my Ibanez Jem from NY. And planning to do the same to got one Steve Morse model.

This is getting silly. No one has suggested that you are not allowed to post your opinion here - I have defended the right of any number of people to do so over the years (as hbucker well knows!). Also, I never said I was going to ban AxSport4Me for posting his opinion. What I have said a couple of times now is that the pointlessly incindiary "Y is great, X is crap!" posts have no place here. It is simply not acceptable to post this sort of reflexive, gain-saying nonsense; it's not an opinion, it's simply bashing, and it is not welcome.

[MONTY PYTHON MOMENT]
M: Oh look, this isn't an argument.
A: Yes it is.
M: No it isn't. It's just contradiction.
A: No it isn't.
M: It is!
A: It is not.
M: Look, you just contradicted me.
A: I did not.
M: Oh you did!!
A: No, no, no.
M: You did just then.
A: Nonsense!
M: Oh, this is futile!
A: No it isn't.
M: I came here for a good argument.
A: No you didn't; no, you came here for an argument.
M: An argument isn't just contradiction.
A: It can be.
M: No it can't. An argument is a connected series of statements intended to establish a proposition.
A: No it isn't.
M: Yes it is! It's not just contradiction.
A: Look, if I argue with you, I must take up a contrary position.
M: Yes, but that's not just saying 'No it isn't.'
A: Yes it is!
M: No it isn't!
A: Yes it is!
M: Argument is an intellectual process. Contradiction is just the automatic gainsaying of any statement the other person makes.
[/MONTY PYTHON MOMENT]

Now, I have banned people who have engaged in that sort of contradictory, brand-bashing behaviour in the past - our "Wolfgang's suck!" poster from last year being a prime example - but AxSport4Me certainly hasn't gone that far. His account is open, and he is still free to post his considered opinion on any guitar he wants - observations made, thoughts and feelings derived there from - and, of course, if he feels so inclined, he's certainly free to leave, but we hope he'll stick around.

And lastly, if he wants to think I'm an A-hole for calling him to task on the "my guitar's better than your guitar!" posts, so be it; that really doesn't have anything to do with it - lot's of people think I'm an A-hole, and some of 'em are probably right. ;)

I rest my case...

I like the tone of my Axis more than that of the last JP I played. Does anyone want to argue about it. Also, I think EBMM saves all the best hardware for the Axis models and puts the leftovers on their other guitars. :D

I just want to personally apologize for everything that went down with this thread!!!! I should not have made this thread up in the first place as i had a feeling that something like this would happen. To Jimi D.......i am sorry and i was in the wrong, but i never said that EBMM guitars suck...heck i have them!!!! I may have gotten defensive and through out the J-CUSTOM and USA CUSTOMS are better but never ever saying anything about EBMM being bad!!!!! That Jem guitar i played the other night just blew me away......and i`m sure alot of us get over excited when that happens as was the case with me. Maybe one is better then the other maybe not but its something that cant be fact only opinions and when i couldn`t get any back up,maybe i went alittle overboard and i`m sorry! So i`m glad that the ban was lifted if anything just to apologize to everyone and not let it end like that. I`m not a jerk and i`m not immature,i just let my emotions get the best of me that time. And thank you to Jon.

Thanks for sticking around. I had the same feeling you got when I picked up my first Pet. It just felt like it was made for me. Obviously, you found an axe that did the same for you. Not all of us like all EBMM guitars. I can't play the LUKE and the Silo is a bit different to me. That is what makes the world go 'round. Like I said before, I welcome you and your opinions no matter what.

I prefer sexy Latinas over blondes. :D

Now I have test driven a few blondes and they were great, but I'd take Eva Mendes, or Jessica Alba over a blonde any day. ;)

Anyone want to agrue with me on that one? :D
