Couldn't resist. Sam Ash had Les Paul Traditional Mahogany for $1149, and it was a lefty. I love it but after playing it for a while, if I had to choose between the JP6 or the LP, the LP would go. Great guitar though.

Wow, pretty big difference between those two!!

The good thing is SA has a great return policy, and the JP6 is in a very forgiving mood (just bring her some flowers when you pick her up).

Dude... EBMM forum - you might want to remove this.... just sayin'

He mentions his JP in his post and how he prefers it. In all seriousness, if this is grounds for erasing a post, this place needs to freaking chillax.

Is there a problem? I was just saying got a great deal on an LP but I like my MM better.

There are lot of great guitar makers out there and most of us here love many of our other brand guitars too. But this is the official Ernie Ball Music Man forum, and this the Discuss Music Man Guitars part of the forum. That's how Big Poppa and the company want to keep it. More than enough other forums out there to discuss other guitars.

Is there a problem? Not really. Had the thread title been different, we might not be having this discussion. This an "I prefer my JP6" thread. So you prefer your JP6. OK! :)

I understand this is the EBMM forum and we are here to discuss MM guitars, but I'm looking through the forum rules and I'm trying to understand what is ok and what isn't. If I started a thread that was titled "Peavey Wolfgang vs. MM Axis" and then went on to say in my post that I own both and very much prefer the MM guitar is that a problem? Would I be out of line for having mentioned Peavey? Just want to make sure I understand what is cool and what isn't. All I saw in the forum rules was that this is a place to discuss MM guitars. I'm just wondering if it is ok to mention other guitars, especially when comparing them to a MM and praising the MM, or is that not ok?

Posts here should be about EBMM gear - MM guitars, EB strings, and accessories. Photos or videos of non-EBMM instruments are not allowed.

There is no ban on passing references to other brands of guitars, but unless it's useful and relevant to a discussion of EBMM stuff, why bother? For example, recent topic - which EBMM guitar is most strat-like, Silo Special or AL? In that case, tonal comparisons to other instruments can be useful but the discussion stays very much EBMM. Another recent one - I love LPs and want an EBMM with similar tone, which should I pick? Again, the discussion was squarely about EBMM.

"EBMM vs BrandX", we'll probably prefer not. You can tell us what you like about your EBMM guitars without having to discuss BrandX. Reasons why you didn't prefer BrandX are better posted elsewhere. The net is chock full of forums that welcome in depth comparisons and discussions. Before posting, ask yourself which forum is better suited to the topic.

If you have any doubts, I'd suggest two options - 1) listen to those doubts, they may be right, or 2) feel free to contact one of the moderators before posting. Beej and I look after the guitar section, but you can also ask Bovinehost or Rod Trussbroken. We'll be happy to advise.

Thanks DrKev. Is all this explained in the forum rules? I couldn't see anything nearly as clear cut as what you just said. Maybe something like what you just explained should be put in there for future times? This isn't the first time I've seen the mentioning of other guitar brands be brought up here and be met with some "hey, don't talk about that" type comments.

mentioning other guitars is fine...eb content is essential..I own other guitars too....Im not sure I would post a thread in the chevy forum saying I bought a ford...its no biggie...The biggest problem with this thread is the self appointed moderators.

for the record I wasn't trying to moderate - It seems a never ending role, I was simply trying to offer advice so someone who was about to make a mistake I'd made here before, I'll avoid replying to anything like this in the future.

Thanks, guys, don't sweat it. The line between moderating and helpful is often a blurry line drawn in shifting sands.

Maybe something like what you just explained should be put in there for future times?

I hear ya. The forum rules came together over years of adding what was deemed necessary. It's about time for a clean up. Beej and I have started looking at.

I love my LPs, but am anxiously awaiting the Armada. My wife signed off on it as soon as she saw the pics. :D
