He Jessica .. posting a pic is simple ...

Assuming you have a picture in an accessible location on the web ...
start a post and click on the "Go Advanced" knob below the edit box ...
click on the button that looks like a yellow-sky landscape with a black sun (wierd but true) ...
A dialog will pop up asking you to give a URL for the picture.

If you don't have a "Go Advanced" button, go to userCP and edit Options - set your editor preference (last box) to enhanced interface ...

Ya know .. now I come to review all that .. it ain't so simple after all.

==========

As for recording, I cheat and use the DI outut from my Pre-aamp so I can produce the same sounds as I do live (i.e. it all sounds like **** rather than just the live version).

Jessica,

First, welcome!

Now..

This may be obvious to you, depending on your level of experience with recording.. but:

1) Do NOT allow your input signal to clip for even a nanosecond when you're recording digitally. In the analog days, with reels of tape, you could let things peak here and there without much concern... and in some cases analog distortion was actually desirable. Not so with digital.. all you get is ugly digital clipping noise if your signal peaks, no wiggle room.

2) For lots of versatility in mixing, and if you have the gear to pull it off, record your bass direct *and* mic'ed simultaneously to two separate tracks. When you mix down, you can add as much of each signal as your ear wants to hear.

3) I always use new strings when I record bass. IMHO, old strings often sound dull when recorded.

..these are just a few that come to mind right away.
