Do yourself a favor. TRY (and I mean TRY, I know its a tall order) to play an EVH. I've owned 2, and neither were "For me". I wanted one since I was a little kid, and when I finally got one... I Was horribly let down. My axis felt, played, and sounded better without the price tag associated with it. Perhaps I "over hyped it" or something, but the 10" radius, microcosmicly different bridge, and whatever minuscule amount neck shape difference really DID make a "difference" for me. Both EVH's were sold in relatively short order. My 2 axis' have remained in my stable for 5-6 years now...

When I got my first one, I was so unbelievably geeked and excited, and after a week... I was... quite sad honestly. Not trying to bust your goals, but if you LOVE the axis, I'd recommend staying with the axis. :)

Well its either down to an evh, or , God forgive me... A really nice peavey wolfgang quilt, which i must say, i own a usa wolfgang and they have quickly become my no 1 neck ive ever played, and i love the sound. I really like the high end wolfgangs, they were truly works of art. Go ahead, flame me, i know its comin!

Ya but the necks! Some of the usa wolf necks are AMAZING! And i love the shape, a little chunky and wide, with tall frets, its a great playing guitar, and the quilts are very rare and only made in the first year, ( unless a custom shop offering) and ive seen some of the most fiqured necks in the world on peavey wolfgangs, and i just love those things! Look up some of the highend quilt customs, the best quilts ive ever seen! In amazing colors too! And i like the carved top, also the special deluxe is a flat top with a figured maple 1/4" top, usualy a flame, but there are custom quilts, but I really want to own an ebmm Evh, they are so collectible, but mine would be a player, i want a great top great neck, and in at least 90% mint, with original case and candy. Im thinking around, $1800- $2500????

no flame here.........but i can tell ya the quality doesn't compare to an ebmm. especially the poorly copied truss rod mechanics...

They are too similar to be comparing them like that. To say the "quality doesn't compare" is pretty... bold, and in my opinion pretty incorrect. They are similar where it matters, and both of them have their own ups and downs.

You know Tommy is Steve Morse's guitar tech and not just one of us forumites blowing smoke.

Peavey really stepped it up for the Wolfgangs and I will always say they were the best guitars Peavey ever made... I will even say they are better quality then the current FMC EVH. However, I do think the MMs have a bit of an edge when it comes to overall quality.

I'll echo Stratty here - quality to mere mortals like me, and probably you, is one thing.

But Tommy's "in the trenches" with world tours in... how many dozens of countries is it now, Tommy? :)

So when he's talking about "quality" he's talking about guitars standing up to constant gigging, practice regime and general travel abuse that less than 0.1% of guitars will ever see.

I def think that the peaveys are way better than the Evh brand ones, they are really great, and i love the ebmms and peaveys equally, however im on a bit of a peavey wolfgang kick right now, my ax40 d that ive upgraded to almost usa specs is so good too. But i have a usa peavey wolf special and its great, but i wod want wn evh or axis too.

Not to rain on the parade, but this isn't really the place to talk about other builders' quality. Perhaps we could relocate the Wolfgang talk elsewhere.

I really wish i had an EvH to try? I know thats all but impossible, but i know it will feel different to the axis, and i like the flat tele ,slab like body of the evh to the axis conture.

Is the evh neck really that different than the axis? I really want one for collectibility, as i am the resident EVH nut. And i will want it not just to look at but to play. Alot! And not gig. I really like the pink. And also natural, the green is nice too but, or even the purple, long as it has not faded. How much would i be looking at, $2500, $3500? This is over a year away at least.

The neck is not that different. Most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the two. The biggest differences are the contours on the back and the toggle switch placement.
