maybe the truss rods are designed to be more stiff and not operate as smoothly......and i just don't like the design ????? not being "bold".......just stating what i have observed repeatedly.....
i can say it's been a couple years since i've had one on the bench......
put this puppy to rest........

You know Tommy is Steve Morse's guitar tech and not just one of us forumites blowing smoke.

Peavey really stepped it up for the Wolfgangs and I will always say they were the best guitars Peavey ever made... I will even say they are better quality then the current FMC EVH. However, I do think the MMs have a bit of an edge when it comes to overall quality.

I honestly wouldn't care if it was Mr. Ball himself to be blunt. I've experienced both first hand (MANY TIMES), and both are high quality instruments. The MM's have a better "fit and finish", I wont deny that, and I even explain that in my video. That counts for a lot honestly. For "feel" and "sound" they are both incredibly similar and in most respects (as natural as it should be) very similar. Not discounting anothers opinion, and his is certainly vetted. I just can't openly swallow that a peavey wolfgang is a "poorly built" guitar, because its not. The "newer" (front peice of your car...) crap on the other hand...

I sold all of my wolfgangs and kept my axis', that should speak enough about how I feel on these things. I'm not openly discussing a competitors product, its just comparing an evolution of design to the "real OG". The MM was first, and imo the staple for the rest of these instruments to follow.

Is the evh neck really that different than the axis? I really want one for collectibility, as i am the resident EVH nut. And i will want it not just to look at but to play. Alot! And not gig. I really like the pink. And also natural, the green is nice too but, or even the purple, long as it has not faded. How much would i be looking at, $2500, $3500? This is over a year away at least.

Trust me, youre NOT the "resident evh nut". I thought I was that, until I saw bretts collection. While its admirable to want this guitar, and trust me, I was DYING for one for many many years until my first one fell in my lap. After owning two, they just werent for me, and I sold them to collectors that will put them away and hold on to them. The differences were small, but very powerful for me. If you LOVE your axis/ax40, its very unlikely youre going to "love" your evh more than it. Then settles the buyer remorse, then you are stuck with a guitar you are trying to love simply because its whats you wanted. I hope to god that an EVH is your unicorn guitar, but in all reality the axis is usually the better buy.

I am also an evh fanatic. Can any of you say that you wore an article of vh clothing every single day for over two years straight until your wife finally put her foot down??? Can ya? Shirts, hats, shoes, sweatshirts, and I even have a wrist-sized vh sweat band that I can wear on my ankle if I have to dress nicely. Yes, I was committed to the bit.

Anyway, I had a trans black evh and it was pretty awesome. But, I find the Axis to be an improvement over it's lesser evolved sibling because they widened the neck slightly to eliminate the problem of pulling the high E string off the side of the fretboard and gave the body a tummy cut. And, the wood options they are throwing at the Axis were unobtainable on an evh. I mean, the pau ferro fretboards on the PDN run were so amazing! Do you fancy an all rosewood neck on your Axis? You can get that, too. Snag a BFR and you'll get a top that is pretty tough to beat. All of these options are yours for a fraction of the price of the evh. As far as I am concerned, the Axis is the evh...but better.

Good luck on the new job! Sometimes a fresh start is just what is needed. Yesterday, on my job, we blew up an RV using 50 gallons of diesel. :)

The job is CRAZY! Its 12 hour days 5 am to 5 pm, driving in the city of Bostons worst area, but im making money and thats all that really matters, the wife likes it, were trying to move into a better apartment, and im saving like crazy, i also am saving for a new car, after my last one was wrecked by a hit and run driver, and i got no compensation! So it seems guitars are the last thing i can buy..... But a man can dream! I actually put away a tiny amount of money into a super duper secret account for my gear, to bad right now its on empty.

Well if you go back to painting let me know! I'm a manager for Sherwin Williams and would be happy to help in any way I can! Good luck on the EVH!

Late to this thread. I've had my EBMM EVH since probably 1994 or so and felt that it was superior to any Axis, because... well, it's an EVH, right?

It wasn't until EBMM came out with the Axis Tribute line that I finally got an Axis of my own. I have to say, that if I had to choose between the two and I could only keep one, it would be the Tribute because of the body contour on the back. Both guitars play and sound great, but the Tribute is much more comfy. I do like the EBMM Gotoh that came with the EVH and later the revised older Axis over the current model, but both trems work great.

Other than the EVH neck being more "worn in" or played, blindfolded, I don't think I could tell the difference. I also like the Tribute's trans pink over the EVH blue, but both of them look great :)

Dude, I agree with the improvements on the Axis over the EVH. Except for my Gold Axis, I probably couldn't tell an Axis from the EVH based on the neck or playability if I was blindfolded.... the body carve on the back and the improved switch placement make it way more comfortable to play... in my opinion. I don't miss any of my old EVH guitars.
