I notice it says at the beginning that the methods demonstrated are not intended for maple fretboards. What should be done for regular maintenance of a maple board? My JP15 has roasted maple neck and fretboard - what should be done to clean/condition it when needed?

My understanding is that you do the things described in the video up until 4:20 on the front of the neck, as well. Maybe someone can confirm this...

Referring to finished/lacquered maple necks (e.g. Cutlass, Stingrays, strats, teles). Those neck, you clean just as you would clean the body of the guitar.

For Music Man necks with the oil and wax finish you can treat the maple board the same as the neck. I would avoid sandpaper on the fretboard so as not to scratch up the frets.

I haven't really done anything to my maple fretboards, other than to occasionally clean off gunk.

Btw, with the neck maintenance- it's not something to need to do regularly. I only do it when the necks are feeling rough. For some guitars, that's years at a time.

So don't feel like you have to set the clock for once a year!

Anyone used wonderwipes fretboard conditioner on maple?

I've used the Ernie Ball fretboard wonderwipes on the roasted maple fretboard of my JP15 and EVH Wolfgang Special with no ill effects or discoloration.

hey I've been looking for a complete maintenance kit from ernie ball and it looks like it does not exist yet...maybe it has something to do with gun wax that is not allowed worldwide ?

I still think it's a would be a good idea

EB doesn't make the oil/wax, so I presume that's part of it. And yeah- some of that is restricted in certain regions, so that makes finding it difficult.

They do say that any comparable gunstock oil/wax would be ok.

Just made the murphy/gunstock routine with no sanding. The guitar was made in 2009 and the first and only previous owner probably never did that; from the smell of the guitar case was a smoker too. Now my neck feels great, hands glide over and the smell improved too. Thx to everybody.

I've never done this to any of my Axis Sports necks. Never seemed necessary. I assume it's fine? The guitars always felt great.
