Believe me when I tell you that I will play that sumbitch. There is no WAY I can't play it. Look, it's like a sexually transmitted disease - if you don't pass it around, no one knows you have it.

No, wait, it's not like that, but still.

I would feel silly having a bass that is so unbleebably cool and not taking it out where people could see it. Plus, let's face it, I have to sell some basses, and people will almost certainly ask me about it, right?

And, if it doesn't help me sell Bongos, at least I can tell the story behind it.

Now then, to the mahogany Bongo:

Y'know, as tasty and gorgeous as that is, to be perfectly honest I kind of prefer non-woody-looking Bongos. It's just too futuristic.

Lemme tell you, until I got my eyeballs on that thing, I might have agreed with you - in fact, I almost certainly would have. Bongos don't need that silly wood stuff! Bongos are NOW! Bongos are the FUTURE! Who needs that old wood?

But I'm telling you, and I'm your pal here, that thing was gorgeous beyond belief.

It shouldn't have worked, according to my beliefs about Bongos, but I've had to reevaluate. I don't know if we'll ever get to a production Bongo in mahogany or any other wood finish, but.....if it happened, a lot of people who previously were not exactly big fans of the BoNgo would come in from the cold.

At least, that is what I think, having seen it up close and personal.

It was a very interesting moment for me.

Props to Dargin and Dudley on this peice. It is sooooooo classy and beautiful. If we came out with this bongo first Jack would have been out of a job. Seriously, the retro trans red mahog with the KILLER trans red birds eye made this bongo a stunner.

after making over 100,000 instruments it is rare when you see one that rocks you like this did for me.

yes and how!
also the look of the rosewood Bongo neck was outta this world. I do love a natural finished MM but thought that the non-trans ie., opaque, suited to show off the lines better on the Bongo but after seeing the trans red and then the rosewood neck, the shape and lines stand out regardless......soooo......
trans finishes on any upcoming Bongos?? there seemed to be some ash lying around the shop and a couple of other hefty chunks of mahogany on the "R&D" shelf in the wood shop......

Truth, boss, that thing was seriously beautiful. And I'd give up my job! Whatever that may be!

Of all the 'regular' people on the forum, I know very well how much unsolicited advice you get on how to run the business that you've been running quite nicely for a long time, but SHEEYIT, Biff! I do think I could sell a coupla hundred of those bad boys.

It rocked you, it rocked us. Can I be a big pain in the arse and ask - why not?

the who loves you?

Awesome look (both of the Bongos)!

You know what this leads to, right?

VV Nice and a potential Lim Ed if not a full-on prod bass.

There was also a buttercreme I saw with a nice neck somewhere.......perhaps that could also be afforded the same treatment.

I've always liked the Bongo, but the doubters out there surely would come-a-runnin?

I'd definitely buy a 5-string HH in mahogany, and that is a promise :D

Are there left handed mahogany trees? I would buy one in a heart beat!!! Probably a fretless, since I don’t have one of those yet.

The amazing thing to me was how they got the finish to match on such different color woods.

I know Wayne C. Henderson from my early teens, he currently building an acoustic guitar for Clapton and the rosewood he’s using came from a counter top from Truman Capote yacht. I’m going to sneak around to see if I can find a stash of good long pieces of rosewood for bass necks for the EBMM boys.

Stunning looks aside, how does it sound compared to a stock Bongo?

From bovinehost's bongo info page at http://www.bovinehost.com/bongo/bongoinfo.html :

Basswood was used for the body because it sounded good.

The sound is really what the Bongo (or any bass IMHO) is all about, no?

Well, what's good for a production instrument isn't necessarily the best thing for a limited edition.

If a ltd ed mahogany Bongo was offered, I'd send a deposit today. Period. End of story. I wouldn't even need a birdseye neck (although, truth be told, i'd pay more for one...hint hint).

You want your forum Ltd Ed Bass without having to wait for people to agree? Mahogany Bongo with black pickguard. No options other than number of strings, or pickup config. I bet you could get enough people to put money down for that without much trouble.

the dude is trying to force a 30 piece buttercream/with rosewood neck order down my throat.....

as long it would be possible to get one in the UK I'd say go for it :)

One Bongo here, one on the way (hopefully ;) ) and I'm struggling to resist buying a third ..

I'd order one today and send a deposit if that goes down. That's a no-brainer.

There's room here for a mahogany Bongo.

Seriously, while I like the rosewood necked Bongo, I would risk serious damage to my health for a mahogany Bongo.

*A man was sitting in a cafeteria next to a blonde woman who was engrossed
in her newspaper.

The bold headline read; "12 Brazilian Soldiers Killed."

She shook her head at the sad news. then turning to the man she asked;

"How many is a Brazilian?"
