My favorite EBMM is my Luke 3 HH with rosewood neck. The neck doesn't feel as small or V-shaped as my Luke (2).

I am curious if anyone has played a rosewood neck and a roasted neck Luke 3? I would love to get a bodhi blue SSH if the neck profile was closer to my rosewood neck than it is to my Luke 2 neck....

Unfortunately I can't speak from experience, but I'd assume that the neck PROFILE will be the same on both- they're both L3s. As far as feel, the rosewood will be a bit different from the roasted. That being said I own an EBMM with a roasted maple unfinished neck and it RULES

The neck profiles are indeed the same and the same as the Luke IIs. Many people don't think so though, so I assume the difference is in the feel of the different woods. Some say the hand finishing will make otherwise identical necks feel slightly different.

Hi Mike,

my BFR-PDN Luke II with the roasted neck feels "thicker" for me too. I know, the measurements are the same. In my mind DrKev is right, I think it's the feel of the different woods.

Thanks all...

I was just curious. My Luke-2 neck is indeed smaller (at least smaller-feeling) than the L3. To me, of all my guitars, the L3 HH is my favorite. I'd love to get a new L3 SSH and maybe sell my Luke 2....

I have my eye on an L3 Bodhi Blue (But 1-2 Years of saving up to do before I can get my hands on one...) Anyway, I'd really hope the neck profile was as close to the Luke II as possible, as this is now what I'm most comfortable with. My Luke 1 has a mega-slim neck which was my favourite (and it's still really comfortable to play), but I certainly would't get on with a neck any chunkier than the Luke II's. I don't have small hands but I find slimmer necks so much less prohibitive to play. Sure I can't be the only one??

Possible thread hijack! :D
How would you guys compare the two necks tone-wise? I had an opportunity to try a LIII with a rosewood neck. I was never into Lukes before, but after playing that one... I was drooling like Homer Simpson. :D

No experience with the L3, but I have an AL HH with rosewood neck and an AL HH with roasted neck. The one with the rosewood neck definitely sounds darker to my ears, the roasted neck gives a bit more bite/snap to the tone. Both are great, although I like the roasted neck more.

@ Mike: If you don't already have an EBMM with roasted neck, get one as soon as possible!

Haven't played any roasted neck LIII's but, I did buy a rosewood neck LIII. I'm a sucker for rosewood necks from any company. Wanted a Y2D with a rosewood neck but, wasn't able to procure one. When the LIII showed up locally with a rosewood neck it was love at 1st sight! I've played a Petrucci roasted neck but, the neck profile is completely different so unfair comparison.

Hi folks..I am pretty new to the forum but not new to EBMM. Had a question on the rosewood neck that I hope could get answered here.

I recently picked up a L3 with a rosewood neck, and am wondering how to maintain it. I've never had a full rosewood neck, and want to make sure I am doing it right when I maintain it.

So, for my other rosewood fingerboard necks, I usually use Guitar Honey oil blend to top off it's oil content. Now I am confronted with a back of neck that is also rosewood, so I don't know if using fretboard oil on the full neck will mess it up in anyway. I am thinking not but wanted to run it by you all first. Thanks.

I use either WonderWipes or a good quality Lemon Oil on the full neck, wiping it down lightly with most string changes.

Cool..thanks for the info! I'll hit it with some lemon oil as it is looking a little dry from hanging in the store for months before I snagged it the other day. What a unique and beautiful neck.

I have the LIII olive gold HH with rosewood. Fell in love with it and sold every other guitar. Proceeded to get an LIII Bohdi blue HSS with birds eye neck. Both guitars are absolutely awesome. The rosewood neck seems to feel a little thicker, but I can switch from one to the other without any problem or adjustment time for feel. Between the 2 guitars, I have every sound I need. The playability of both is exceptional. I will never sell them, and won't ever need any other 6 string electric guitar. Thank you Luke and MM! 40 years and 40 guitars later, I found my tone and feel!

Welcome to the forum. However I remember saying that my Axis was all I needed, then I got a couple Axis Sports, another couple of Axis guitars, then an AL, then then an HHAL and a silo spec is on it's way and I'm thinking about a PDN BFR AL, Y2D or a Luke... Then I want an Armada and am interested in a JP and possibly a gold roller and a double neck at some point.... So yeah, enjoy thinking that the 2 Luke's will be enough. These rotten people at EBMM keep coming out with amazing guitars that cause major GAS. What's amazing is that I have narrowed the heard to 4 keepers...

welcome!
but there is a rule: no pictures - no guitar!

and of course if you want to save money for other things in life, leave this place very fast. otherwise you will end up like the rest of us, buying more and more EBMM guitars.....all this teasing EBMM does with this new limited / PDN runs.....oh boy, it´s hard to resist! :)
