Help! L3 tremolo stud posts

Hi !
Is the pivot stud posts supposed to be screwed into the body until the screws doesn´t turn any more ?
Or is it better to have them "up" a bit ?
I bought a used L3 and one of the studs is all the way in and the other a bit up.

My understanding is that you should be able to put a business card between the bottom of the bridge plate and the top of the body. If you would like, I can take a picture of how mine is setup
