So I bought 3 different mags here in the UK - all with NAMM reports - I figured I'd get a tonne of BFR porn that maybe my fellow knuckleheads didn't have....

But no - not a picture.... not a one........... that sucks.

Poppa, imagine you just spend a whole bucket load of cash on hte new ads for strings, (nice campaign by the way)

Why don't they show you the love !??!!?!?

Yup. I got this months guitarist. Big spread on the top 50 products at NAMM. They had a MM bass in there, but no mention of the BFR. To be honest though, I only get it cos the missus got me a subscription for my birthday last year but every single issue is pretty much the same. They review the lastest Fender relic, a cheap no name bass, an obscure acoustic, the latest PRS and a bunch of accesories that you'd find no use for as the novelty will wear off after 5 mins. It used to be a really good mag, but it's so out of touch with the actual "guitar world". It's just a trade mag now. To be honest, I really don't give a hoot about how the guitar player from the latest indie band uses a £200 beaten up epiphone instead of a higher end product. I wanna see the latest innovations by real innovators be it bands, guitarists or companies. Not the latest rehash of something we've all seen a billion times before.

I have been getting Guitarist for about 14 years, but the last few years it has gone downhill. Though it is funny looking at the prices of guitars in UK pounds, i'm glad i dont live in England! You guys pay A LOT! ( yes i know, sorry for bringing it up) Total Guitar i stopped getting, its just an angry teen mag if there ever was one! Guitar Techniques still KICKS ASS!

maybe I said something about their teeth.

oh dear...

At least the French have some "Entente cordiale" (that could be translated with somethink like "Friendly harmony") with the British :p

I still don't understand why Lucious is touring with an English chief :D

In the french mag Guitarist & Bass (# 198), there are 3 pics of Ernie Ball products :
A Blue Luke (wonderful !)
A Sting Ray (20th anniversary)
The Wah Wah
The pics are small, but it is the same for all the brands

Guitarist is really struggling to be interesting unless you like the brands that they seem to plug all the time (PRS, Fender and Rivera spring to mind).

They also seem to forget that as far as reviews are concerned we haven't all got every back issue - what's wrong with re-evaluating a popular piece of gear to see if it still does the business?

Maybe the new Editor will improve things.

Honestly, I haven't read a decent guitar mag for at least 5 years. I can get much better content on the web for free.

I picked up a Guitar Player last month and it was some of the worst crap I have ever read. Absolutely no real content. Just a lot of ads.

A a relative newbie I think Guitarist is a pretty good Mag. The tabs are pretty good quality and I think there is a fair balance of electic/acoustic/effects and Bass reviews.

In the last year there have been major reviews of the Morse Y2D and 20th Silo, plus a historical review of the Silo.

It seems to suit me much more than the US mags that I frequently scan through in Borders. YMMV.

Guitar and Bass magazine in the UK had a NAMM pullout but yet not one mention of the BFRs. However, there was a picture of Albert Lee holding an AL which is more than what we got in Guitarist Magazine.

I agree about Guitarist though, there are only so many reviews of the same old brands i can cope with!

Guitar & Bass is IMHO the best mag you can find in France. Here in Paris, we can find English, US and French mags.
The problem with French mags is that the writers are perhaps good guitarists but have a limited grasp of French grammar and vocabulary ... They try to speak like young guys but they only succeed to make fools of themselves.

The Magazines are trying to be relelvant in the electronic media age. They are as important as a new VCR. Go Figure with publishing lead times it is six weeks later if they decided to cover the BFR. Also ever see how much editorial goes to non advertisers? The journalistic standards in our industry are pretty sad. I love to see what the weasels at the various mags give editors choic e and kriptonite picks to.....By the way a notable exception is Ed Friedland and the mag he writes for...we dont advertaise and they cover us...or maybe its because you can possibly ignore our guitars but you dont sell magazines ignoring Music Man basses...
