Sigh...oh, well. Gold hardware just ain't my thing. The bass I just sold had it, and I never liked it all that much. Too pimpy. Then again, it also had abalone block inlays and a quilt top, so it was way, WAY tarted up...all it needed was hot pants and six-inch heels. The gold was only part of it. Sweet bass, though. Lots of people will love it. I like the matching headstock...really works well here. My vote for the pg: A black PG with gold stripe for that classic black/black Stingray look with a slight difference, or a gold anodized aluminum pickguard so that it doesn't clash with the control plate.

Pickguard? Black with a gold outline set about a 1/4' in from the edge. That would be something we haven't seen before.

While I do think that bass looks amazing, Im not one for gold either.
That still doesnt take away from the fact of that bass being amazing.
Id say a gold anodized pickuard, if it didnt look too "flat" against the other shiny gold. That make any sense?

...That bass with the gold hardware is definitely one sharp mutha, but I would be concerned with its appearance over time. For example, I have a white Stingray, that, over time, may start to yellow and look butterscotch. When it does that, I'll slap a tortoise guard on it (or keep the same one on) and it will still look sharp. But with gold hardware---assuming it is gold-plated--- will chip revealing the chrome underneath; which may or may not look too nice.
But, on the other hand, the bass (as pictured) certainly has a more conservative look to it. If I walked into a dark club, I wouldn't guess at first sight the Bass player was actually holding a Stingray, even though I may recognize the tone. Maybe it is because I'm such a MM nut, but Stingrays seemed to visually call my attention more immediately than the other 50,000 Fender J-Bass clones that are out there...
