right, i knew about that...but I thought some other people were talking about the gold wearing fast or something like that....I've never had an issue with that as long as you occasionally wipe down the hardware....am i missing something else????

thanks colin!

No, I don't think you're missing anything, but I want to make sure this doesn't get blown up and misunderstood.

I had a bass built in 1997 with gold hardware. I was second owner, so I don't know how it was treated before I got it, but it was near-mint when I bought it. I did wipe it down. By the time I sold it the ridges on the knobs were worn down to the chrome, there was chrome showing through on the knob domes, and there were hints of silver in other places like the tuning posts. Didn't look bad at all, but it did happen.

Like I said, I don't know if it was just that bass or inherent in the plating process. Gold can, and does, wear off. Check the tailpiece on this banjo...this is an extreme example of wear that probably can only happen after decades:

Now, I personally prefer the look of chrome hardware, but gold can look great against the right finish and in the right context. Gold over blue? Ick. Gold trim on your Cadillac? Nothing says "hip hop" quite like that. Gold on Stankburst? Now, that'll probably look great.

Why are you guys not so keen on the gold hardware? I think it would look nice on this color...

can I even use the word "keen" anymore?

I've never really been a fan of gold hardware. To me, it's a bit pretentious. More for instruments that should be left in storage and not played out. It's just my opinion.

I gotcha...I agree that with the right finish, it looks nice...I probably prefer the chrome finish, too....but I do think the gold would look good on this new LE color...might be a good question for CS...to see if the gold hardware EB uses holds up better than other manufacturers.

You dont want to blow this thing out of proportion and then you post a picture of an antique banjo with worn gold hardware? SHoue I post a 50 chevy with flaky chrome?

Stating that plating can wear out..... ANY plating does. For this you get master of the obvious award forSaturday Novemember Tenth in the year two thousand and seven!.

I have read about your brand z gold hardware at least twice and have read your preference towards chrome...

posting drastic examples of bad gold is not very helpful and plants a seed of negativity that we havent earned. " "Im not saying that EBMM's gold will wear but look at these examples!!!!"

THis may come as a shock but they have made plating advances since that banjo was made.

Has anyone had a problem with their plating on the 2006LE?

We face challenges when trying to select the LE's....the first few years are no brainers...it gets harder and harder to top yourself while not ripping off vintage Fender and Gibson finishes and meet expectations....... especially here where the expectations grow with each step we make.

WE actually understand that not everyone will like what we choose..just like some may not like grandmas liver and onions.....(except for uncle BOB....YUMMY!)

I would like the consideration of memers to not hijack threads to support their already repeated personal preference or bias for one feature or another...Feel free to start a "I hate gold hardware" but make sure you use ebmm banjos because I dont pay for bandwith for others instruments.....Just a little joke fella's and broads.

Every time adouglas rants about gold hardware it makes me want to punch a koala bear.

I think the gold hardware will look great with "Blingburst", but I'm starting to think that EBMM should stick to chrome so we don't have to read another dissertation by Professor Bent Knob again.

Lawdy, I just love selected blindness.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Why is it that people latch onto one thing they read and hang onto it like a pit bull with a bedroom slipper? Just watch...I'm going to get kicked for mentioning the word "wear" in association with "gold" for another two flippin' years. Guess I'm going to have to add another line to my sig now! :p

I wasn't "ranting" fercryinoutloud. I never, ever, ever claimed that it would, or could, happen to an EBMM instrument. All I know, and all I said, is that I've seen it happen (therefore it CAN happen, no?) and I posted a photo I found that shows what it looks like when it does. Nothing else. Oh, except that it actually can look pretty cool. Mine did.

I only made that second post to make SURE nobody thought I was bitching or ranting. But it happened anyway. Of course!!!!!

Here's what got conveniently ignored....

IMHO gold can look really good in the right context.... BP and crew have shown us over and over that they've got good taste. I'm sure this will be a great looking package!

Gold on Stankburst? Now, that'll probably look great.

Can you guys please take a compliment when it's given and not go off like like a freakin' bottle rocket?

Now....let's see some pics of that bad boy, please!

Peace, out.

Andy, you just don't get it. This thread was to give us a glimpse of the 2008 LE. It's not a thread about who likes or doesn't like gold hardware and how it holds up over time. Every time someone brings up gold hardware, you give us the same story about your Carvin.

It's obvious you're a guy with a lot of opinions, and I think that's great, but every time someone disagrees you go into victim mode.

So where are those stankyburst pics? :)
