I'm getting a great mid punch sort of Jacoesque tone in that mid switch position. In fact that is the only setting that I use on the bass it is just so damn good!

Now you're talking, Bob. We all knew this would happen.

OK, I've had the Sterling for a while now and just love the tightnes around the first few frets. Nuts shmuts, what was I on about, this bass is really good.

FWIW I thought that the Sterling was meant to do the Stingray sound on the bridge posisition, well it doesn't for me anyway. All the more reason to take my SR4 and the Sterling to gigs.

For me the best Sterling sound and feel is in the middle position, it's just so punchy and jazzy, love it. The SR4 is still doing the business as well. Two great basses, every EB fan should have at least one of each. :)

Update two years on. Still love and playing the Sterling. I now use the selector switch in the position facing the neck. It has more mid punch and punches through the mix of the band in a fatter way. Thanks again for all the help.
