Nicely done....for me its def very different than the prev few. The metal songs like enemy is much more metal and aggressive, the tone is much tighter than anything before. Looking Glass to me is very different than what Im used to, very journey which is a great change of pace...I could go on and on but behind the viel is my fav of them all.....

Evolution, if you compare anyones work to thier prev or your own expectation it will fail...it is what it is...and to me its great:)

better than I was expecting after the second single release, I agree that although better than the last album, the drums sill sound weak, you just can't hear every nuance like you could in the old days. guitar wise, it's phenomenal, but I can't stand those cheesy toddler toy sounding keyboards, it wrecks the whole thing for me...my last rant is on some of the lyrics that again never disappoint to sound forced and awkward and again a tad on the loud side compared to the backing...would take some listening to to get into it, but there's just so much good music out there these days to be wow'ed by anything anymore.

I like it! It's always funny to me when people listen to a bands latest album and say "sounds to much like them" Duh! Don't you think that's the point. Metallica tried to do a few albums outside there box and got chastised for it. I listen to Dream Theatre for some great music that just goes in different directions. Its not straight blues or metal its 5 guys who are masters at what they do!

I like this album a lot, to be quite honest after I heard the first single I was a little dismayed at the possibility of an ultra heavy record like train of thought. However, listening to it, I have to say the amount of variety from song to song was impressive, from the heavy 7 string to the rush influence, many things were distinctly different from each other which was nice to see. I can see how some people could view it as "not stepping out of their comfort zone" but had they stepped out of their comfort zone on the first album that Mangini wrote on, people would have polarized opinions on whether or not he is able to fit in, I think that the fact that this album is such "classic dream theater" proves that Mangini is a more than valid addition to the band.
