There once was a little combo...

...that wished it could be oh so much more!

I was a bit underpowered, a bit overweight, a bit cold and harsh. But it knew it could do better.

One day, it decided to shed everything but it's most redeeming feature and build itself up into
something wonderful - nimble and light-weight yet more powerful than most in its class.

Float like a butterfly; sting like a bee! We begin at the beginning...

Without being rude, may I ask what these amps cost? I need a small head to power a 2x10 cab for small gigs. There's no GC around here, I've been looking at a Mesa Boogie Scout, pretty pricey!

Carpet Covered and Routed...

Didn't think we'd stop there, did ya!?

Capped-off each side of the head with the appropriate carpet-covered plugs.

Also routed out a bit of the frame to permit installation of a new, lighter, Neodymium-based heart!

Total weight?

Ah, the magic question! You gotta love these numbers...

Swapping the heads saved 2lbs 14ozs.

Swapping the speaker saved 6lbs.

I added about a pound between the fittings and "acousti-stuff" damping material.

Net result? Started with 42 pounds and 120watts and ended with...

34lbs and 500 watts!

Hmmmmm....

:D

You are giving me ideas! I have a GK Backline 112 I'd like to do that to. (In fact I think that's what your's looks like...)

I've been parking the GK in my room as a practice amp and taking the LM II and T102P to practices and small gigs.

Hmmmmmm....

The Man Knows His Amps...

...Was that a Hartke Kickback 15 combo in a previous life?

Very close Mark - this combo began life as a KickBack 12!

LMK-IIh.jpg

I've been happy with the Hartke, especially for solo practice and the occasional carry-out situation. I especially liked the "shape" filter. But playing now with a live drummer and carrying-out once or twice a month to practice at his place got me thinking about weight. Also, I've needed to crank the Hartke to 80% to get to a respectable volume with the drummer. Not comfortable driving it that hard.

So began my mission to shed some pounds and gain some quality volume...

Mission accomplished!

I love this head. And with this new & improved combo I have all the same features I had (and liked) in my previous combo and then some. Most importantly for me, a direct out and the 'VPF' (Variable Pre-shape Filter).
