Sorry, it can't be done.

I picked up a Luke last week immediately after playing a 20th Silo. The v-neck seemed awkward, the tone sounded thin and weak, and dare I say that the Luke even felt... slow. Bleh - not for me.

This morning when I was in GC Seattle exchanging some cables I noticed that they had a Luke on the rack so I went over and plugged it in to a nearby Fender Twin. Wow, it actually felt like the fast, smooth guitar that every Luke owner raves about. I now want one again :)

In other words unless you want your otherwise excellent guitars to go down a (perceived) notch, don't even pick up a 20th Silo. Make sure you have the money ready before you play it.

I've grow fonder of the Luke as I play it----I love the trem flutter on it---ya can't find a better guitar for Beck stuff------but I'm not sure I'm sold on the EMG's yet. They record great -----but I'm not gellin with them through my rig yet.

Paul, how do you like th pups on the 20th than? I tried the 20th through a Line6 Flextone3, but I didnt test it enough to really get something special out of em. But overall the guitar looks great and definatly sounded nice and fat, which is what I like :D.
And the EMGs on the Luke2, I just cant find anything wrong with them.

cant say anything but yeeehaahhh bout the 20th . The nicest double bucker guit I've every had period. Nothin but a thousand tones in there!!!!! I've always had a love/hate relationship with EMGs---it really depends on what your playin them through-----and so far the Luke isnt playin nice with my prefered type of amp rig. I may try regular pu's in it or may have to sell /trade it to someone who will groove with it better. I'd love to keep it just to have it as Luke is my favorite guitarist----but right now I need some other basic guits for my arsenal and cant justify havin a nice guitar just to have it----unfortunately my cash flow wont allow that right now!!!!! PS: I have several other guits(too many) but I dont list them in my signiture as they arent EBMM!!

i fully understand why people would want to change the pickups in the luke, i'd love to hear the new pickups first though. i really notice the EMG tone if i've played half a gig with the Axis SS, then i switch to the luke, the edgy highs disappear in favour of a real smooth solid sound. but its unfair to compare the two guitars really.
