Okay. I get the need to have the headstock remain familiar. It's just that the body of the guitar is so "out there" and futuristic. It's a bit of a jarring juxtaposition. Still, it's great!

OK let me continue the discussion....

The Ernie Ball and John Petrucci Facebook has had some really aggressive and mean posts...a lot of likes too...Sign of the pent up frustration many people feel and how they use the internet to release and vent.

Now here is my commentary...Its a guitar. no animals were harmed...no loved ones lost, no one went hungry....the world didnt lose another guitar to make room for this...it's a flippin guitar. It's another choice. That's it....The punishment should match the crime....however.....

Look back at how I set you kids up for this....I told you a long time ago that many would not like this initially..... I said it would bunch the panties of some....I exposed the features slowly to let you guys and gals get a feel...them some people decided to invade my privacy in the name of entitlement and bust my planned introduction....

But it's here and guess what? I absolutely love it.....love playing it....it is so fine to hold and play and so responsive that it makes me want to get better at playing. But the real important thing is that John Petrucci has a guitar in his hands that was in his head.....As with all artists they cant articulate it specifically... John asked for a sleek and powerful stallion.its up to us to get it out of them...I am super proud of our team...Drew was the point man on this and did a great job.

I believe that this will sell....but I really dont care....honestly...we did what I started out to do 29 years ago...we made a very sophisticated tool for a world class artist.

Does your wife want a job in r and d? Thanks for the nice post.

She's a psychologist - might be helpful in R&D, especially when working on projects with extreme pressure (like the Majesty) :)
One call and we're moving to SLO ;)

Can't wait to see an hear JP with the Majesty on upcoming DT tour (he'll have it, right?).

Cheers!
M.

It's great! BP I'm sorry for those who are impatient and decided to invade your private page. I for one enjoy this guitar, can't wait to see this colour in person!

Thank you BP for continuing to share your thoughts and insight. It is much appreciated, especially given what had happened. I, for one, will put my guitar buying on hold until the Majesty is released... then I may have to buy a 6 and 7 string. The biggest decision for me will be the color... the mystic dream and the blue both look sexy. Depending on what other colors are offered, the choice will be daunting.

Quick question BP. A while back you had mentioned that JP's love of BMWs influenced the colors. I can definitely see the similarity of the blue to the blue used on some of the limited edition M3's. Was the carbon fiber look also inspired by the carbon fiber spoilers of the M3? Just curious.

Thank you again BP!

Thanks for that, BP!

I hope that before too long we can have some more details of what's under the paint (I've already see it of course). It's one of the things I loved about the BFRs, the 25th/Reflex, JPX, Armada, etc., - the mix of tonewoods, chambering, construction and so on. Yes, it's just a guitar but were not talking about two pieces of wood and some string any more.

You guys have pushed the boat out so far over the years and I've really enjoyed seeing the innovation and creativity under the paint. I loved the "making of" videos for the JPX and Armada. I hope we eventually get to see the same kind of thing here. EBMM used to be 'just' a great guitar maker for me. Now, all the innovation we've seen over the last decade is an important part of how I perceive EBMM too. The physicist/engineer in me loves it! Nobody else is doing this kind of innovation, long may it continue!

Of course all I want is another Silhouette Special, arguably the most traditional of all the guitars EBMM makes. The irony isn't lost on me! :D

If you think about it, since the 1950s, there have been only a few major structural (not purely cosmetic) innovations in guitar design. Whether or not one prefers to remain a traditionalist, this has to be recognized as another significant milestone in the ongoing evolution of the electric guitar. The next year will be very exciting as the full specs are revealed and the Majesties start making their way into the hands of dealers and players. I can't wait to get my hands on one.

Whenever something new comes out, a number of folks out there will disagree with the "change" - regardless of how big or small that change will be. Yes, I was one of them. A lot of us are so used to our comfort zone that we don't want to go out of it. Well guess what, boys and girls. Not everyone wants to rest on their laurels. And I for one appreciate the fact that some of the artists I love and enjoy listening to have the guts to try something different. This especially goes to Big Poppa and EBMM. Thank you for "coloring your crayons out of the line" so to speak. In a business where everyone is sticking to what works and what sells, EBMM is only one of the few that comes out with something different in their products. Regardless if it sells or not - regardless if it gets cheered or jeered - at least they're doing something that is out of the norm.

And speaking "out of the norm," where else can you find where an owner or CEO of a guitar company such as EBMM that is as active as BP on their own forums? We're all lucky. :)

Thanks BP! Thanks EBMM! That is all.

I just want to know if the Majesty will have a 7 strings version, kinda curious to see how it will look like. And Bp when you say the guitar is very light can you say something about it? It's like 2,5 kg? The only thing I don't enjoy about my jp12-7 is the weight haha, maybe this guitar can be a new beginning for me!

Question... I doubt BP would answer, will answer, or even wants to answer at this point ...but ...here goes. Now that the Majesty is nearing completion and is going to be released, is this the end of the line as far as major releases to the JP series? Where else could it possible go from here?

Without a doubt, this project has been the most exciting, intense, and gratifying that I have ever been a part of at EBMM. Big Poppa, John and our team have worked very hard to make the Majesty the best it can be, and I am so excited to finally see it out in the open.
Love it or hate it, this thing is a machine....you'll see soon enough!

Not a JP player but these kinds of threads are a fantastic read for the insight they provide musicians into what goes into creating and making these instruments and the insane amount of decisions made and reputations on the line.
Thanks for the behind the music info BP

Anybody have some nice photoshop skills that could overlay a JP (X/XI/XII/XIII) with this new design? I think it would help ground me as to size, and where material was removed......

Not perfect, but here's a comparison with the JP13.

Majesty JP13 Comparison.jpg

I've held back my opinion on the Majesty not because I don't like it, but because I haven't been able to find the words to explain how much I like it. This is a very forward design and I see why BP thought (and was right about) people would not receive it well. I really like it. I can't wait to see or hear about the new construction methods used with this guitar. I remember BP had said something a while back about patents. I can't wait to see what happens with this!
