Our wedding photos are embarrassing for me, people just crack up when they see them. There used to be pics of the old me on my Guitar Tuition website, but I replaced them ages ago, new students would come in after seeing the site and ask me where Rob is, they couldnt believe I was the same person as the fatty on the site! 2 litres of Coke a day, 2 pizzas, KFC and Maccas every day will make you fat, who wouldve thought, what a great diet I had!

My wife is really understanding... When I play at home or go for jamming or gigs, she doesn't let me wear the ring. She's afraid I'll lose it because she knows I'll take it off... hahahaha...

I did have a big thick platinum ring that weighed a metric ton. (My wife wanted me to remember that I was married!) It didn't get in the way so much, but it did stick out enough to hurt my hand by messing with the spacing between the two surrounding fingers.

I've switched to a thinner, lower profile wedding band, and it's never caused me any trouble.

The key is the nice simple ring. Smooth, curved edges, and a light, thin band.
I hardly notice mine is there.

I keep mine on and have had no problems. At first, even away from the guitar, your left hand will feel strange but you'll get used to the feel of it pretty quickly :D

really cool thread... :D

rob i know EXACTLY what you mean...

... i was about 25kg heavier then. i lost the weight during the past years - when our first child was born i stopped workout and eating like a freak... i just have these two pictures here at the office - they can give you an idea...

so the ring doesn´t fit any more - and i don´t want to get the ring resized... so I cant wear it anymore! ma wife can understand it but sometimes she grumbles in a funny way... for me it´s a symbol and sometimes i feel bad about it - but actually i don´t like rings and jewelry that much because they interfere when playing the guitar, or when you have to do some housework, etc.

You know, I wondered the same thing when I was about to get married.

I always wear my ring and it's never been a problem, doesn't come into contact with the neck when I play at all, or if it does, I've never marked a neck with it.

I thought the same thing when I got married in May! I took it off the first few times I played because I was still getting used to wearing it in the first place. After I got used to it I kept it on and it's not been a problem. I was mostly worried about the neck on my BFR, but again, it's not been an issue.

I agree with Beach Radio in that it seemed to help with my ring and pinky dexterity. Kind of an added bonus!

Earplayer: I think your weight situation may have been a little different than Rob's! You Austrians are good at weight lifting (like Schwarzenegger)...

well... yeah the situation might not be exact the same :D ...

haha... maybe the austrian milk has some extra-proteins... when you completely stop lifting and eating properly the muscle atrophes with time so i am a lot smaller than i was "in my best years". but i am happy that i found my love to the music again. and with my well-beloved kids i don´t have time for two hobbys anyway so i quit completely... our kiddies keep us on the go.

...sorry for OT

Never had a problem with mine. Actually, it never occurred to me before reading this thread that this could be a problem.

I do take it off for electronics work, though -- that's a good way to lose a finger, otherwise.

I'm not married anymore (long Story). But when I was, I never wore the ring so I never had the problem. I am getting married again to a girl who I would be proud to wear the ring for. I'm gonna wear it while I play unless I notice a problem.

Interesting question as this topic came up just last night.

I stopped wearing my wedding ring a few months ago because it was really hurting my finger when I was playing guitar. Not all the time mind you, but sometimes it would start throbbing at the knuckle and it was all I could do to finish the song. It's really weird because 14 years later, the ring still fits fine, but for some reason it has just gotten uncomfortable.

I told my wife that it just doesn't fit any more which really isn't totally accurate. It just bothers me, ESPECIALLY when I am playing. I really don't know why either because it never did before a few months ago. Most likely the issue is more with my finger than the ring... but either way it's in my wife's jewerly box.

BTW, when we got married we were young and broke. My ring cost less than $100 and her engagement ring was only about $250 or so. Guess that is the one advantage of getting married young. ;)

Yeah...I haven't worn mine in years. It was laser cut and scratched EVERYTHING. I never really liked wearing jewelry anyway, so I put it in my drawer several years ago and it's been there ever since.

Personally I don't understand all the crap around wearing a wedding ring. If you love your spouse and she or he knows it, then I say the ring is pointless.

I don't wear one... I can't stand the feeling of foreign objects on my hands (other then gloves) though I did try for a while. I am a little OCDish and that's one of the things.

A friend of mine did the Tattoo thing too and I was considering that...
