The ring is definitly not a problem (other parts of a wedding can be more problematic !). After one month, you feel strange when you don't wear it. For playing, it's not a problem.
I wear my ring for 12 years and I never had a problem with it.

I take mine off while playing; the clanking against the neck is a distraction.

Goes right back on afterwards; keeps the cougars at bay.

Yeah...I haven't worn mine in years. It was laser cut and scratched EVERYTHING. I never really liked wearing jewelry anyway, so I put it in my drawer several years ago and it's been there ever since.

Personally I don't understand all the crap around wearing a wedding ring. If you love your spouse and she or he knows it, then I say the ring is pointless.

Mike

Mike I like the way you think:D

My ring only bothered me when people asked If I was married....

Haha j/k. I just never acknowledged our marriage and now when divorced. Coulda seen that coming.

No problems here. It did take a little getting used to initially. Doesn't mess up my Axis neck at all. But if I took it off, it wouldn't be my Axis' neck I'd be worried about! :p

Wow, didn't realize so many guys here are married!!!!

Yeah, I used to love to "click" my ring (gold band) on the neck too, just felt good.

Since then I've taken it off and put it on a very thin leather necklace. It doesn't get in the way unless I'm doing hammer on's while playing with my teeth.

In which case, it should get in the way!! lol, lol, lol

Wow, thanks for all the answers guys, this is the longest thread I've ever started here...

Seems people are leaning towards it not getting in the way, but it's still pretty divided. I guess I'll have to give it a go on my old OLP before I try playing one of my genuine balls with the ring, see what my preference is :D

...married a strange woman who didn't like wedding rings....I hate them too so never a problem. Surely if it's a problem you can take it off for a while......my mother did when she washed up and she 's been married 52 years

I like to take mine off, sometimes it gets in the way. But I'll just pop it onto my right hand or put me necklace through it. Wouldn't want to loose it.

I was worried about that........it makes no difference at all. I actually had a conversation with my wife about it as I was going to do something like put it on a necklace....

However, Petrucci, Morse, EVH, Vai, SATCH, Gilbert, Yng etc etc etc are all married.....a ring sure don't stop them or restrict them.....I've never ever noticed a difference.....

My wedding ring comes off only for a couple of reasons:

1. Playing bass - don't want to scratch the neck plus I find since my Bongo 6 has such a long stretch to the B string - my ring sometimes hangs up on the edge of the fret board.

2. Karate class - don't want to thump anyone with it accidentally!

<< married 16 going on 17 years. Bought me $25 ring because we knew I was never going to wear it. Only used it for the ceremony.
Get a tatyoo on your ring finger?? I didn't, but here's what I mean.

Man those tattoos are cool but yer wife has some really hairy hands!
Nah....just jokin`!
Seriously, though.... I, as a young man worked in a machine shop and as an older adult became a journeyman electrician. Both endeavors were jobs in which the wearing of jewelry items were hazardous to my guitar playing future or even possibly life threatening . As a result I never to this day wear any kind of jewelry. Even if I wanted to, I can`t play with a ring on at all.....gets tangled in the strings and just is a pain. Of course I don`t require any jewelry as my male plumage is usually sufficient to get me noticed in a dimly lit sleazy blues bar!

To keep my wife happy, I wear my wedding ring on a chain around my neck. She feels that she still has her territory marked and it is much lighter than an actual yoke! That way, I`m still betrothed yet at the same time the chicks at the blues bar think I`m single and available. They never see the ring until its too late.....HAHAHA!;)

I`ve seen people play with stuff hanging off them that would stress a mule while other folks like Herb Ellis swear they cant play with a watch, ring or cufflinks on! To each his own. Try the necklace ring and see if it flies with your wife!

I have been wondering about this too. I am getting married pretty soon. I suppose its just a case of getting used to it. I only plan on getting a small silver one anyhow.

I mentioned before that I take mine off, but failed to mention that it is only a problem when I'm playing on the low strings high up on the neck, specifically when hammering on notes there in which I get a knock sound from the ring on the fretboard.

Been happily married for 27 years and haven't worn a wedding ring for over 20 years. Neither my wife or myself wear them, but that doesn't reflect the quality of the relationship whatsoever.
