Matching headstock and different woods?

Thinking about necks - regular maple, roasted, all rosewood, mahogany, why is it we only put matching headstocks on regular maple? What about a roasted or rosewood neck with a painted headstock? Could that not be wonderful thing? Or would it be like eating Brussels sprouts with strawberries?

I LOVE the matching headstock on the roasted necks. The last PDN had some amazing ones.

Yeah but that colour wasn't too far from the wood. What about a blue, or green, on a rosewood neck or roasted maple?

I'm not sure that it would look right, but you never know for sure until it is tried. Maybe there is a technical reason for not painting r/w headstocks? It would certainly be different.

I'm with you Kev, I think it would look great. Generally speaking, I don't have a preference for one over the other.

Picturing the all rosewood neck AL with, say a classic white, matching headstock could be really attractive.

Perhaps the darker wood necks (roasted/all rosewood) could contrast in a nice way.

Yes, I agree, classic white or white pearl against the rosewood could be gorgeous, but I'm not sure how I'd feel about, say, Bodhi Blue. So that's why I pose the question - what do other people think?

I think it would look good. It could be a nice option to add if ever available.

For me the matching head stock thing is easy;

Normal maple neck with a dark fret board(rosewood,ebony, etc.) matching head stock is great
Any other necks and fret boards matching need not apply

Maple fret boards look better with non matching as do all the rosewood and roasted variations.

But to each their own likes and dislikes

I kinda look at "matching" headstock as a case by case thing. I don't go in saying, "I need/or don't need a matching......."

It's kinda like "part of the package", so I guess it just depends..............??????? Overall I prolly prefer a maple fretboard with a maple headstock.

I prefer matching headstocks, especially when it's a burst body with a matching burst headstock.
