Distorted or overdriven notes are very rich sounding
& just sort of blossom, or sing when you hold them...
Good sustain is easy to achieve
(though there's certainly a true learning curve involved...)

There's a three way switch on the 2nd channel..
"Thick, Normal & Thicker"...
Thick is a fat overdrive
Normal is a tight overdrive
& Thicker is all out distortion (like stacked pedals...)

I just scored a Lone Star Classic 2X12 off of a guy on the Boogie Board. Can't wait to get it. I played one at a local music store this weekend and was blown away by the clean tones. My strat and G&Ls (all with G&L single coils) will love this amp.

Lucidology - thanks for the offer. I see you're in Monterey - about a 2 hour drive from me. Can't wait for it to arrive. Should show up here on Tuesday... Right in time for band practice.

Just bought two of 'em

Great rundown of the Special...!!
It still has chime & sparkle,
but doesn't stay clean as you turn it up....

I think a lot of people looking for strickly
a Tweed sound will prefer the Special over the regular Lonestar....
In fact, a lot of folk who are into
low wattage Vox amps will probably also prefer the Special,,,,

The Lonestar is more of a
Fender Blackface clean (i.e.Twin, Super Reverb)
as opposed to the Special being more of a
Fender Tweed or Vox clean (i.e. very early breakup..)

Hey Lucidology (Joe)!

Just bought two of 'em Saturday and I noticed your posting here on a Google search. My buddy Matt Pinson wrote the article you referred to in this thread. Maybe you'll want to come by when you're in Santa Cruz area next and check 'em out.

to be honest.....i was very suprised . i played a lonestar special w/ a luke while stopping in a guitar center in fairfax , va. this past weekend. i really liked it alot. the distortion channel was the best i ever heard in a combo amp. it was a perfect sonic matchup w/ the luke.
