I played with the Eden a bit at NAMM and it had good tone but was underpowered.

For me (YMMV, etc), the iAmp stuff is just too dry. Great for those guys who want dead clear reproduction - I should think the upright crowd would be all over these.

No experience with the AI you mention.

The Markbass stuff is all-around wonderful. Plenty of power, plenty of tone, able to push larger cabinets in a single bound, not power-shy at all.

Just my .02 - Jack

I would be very surprised by anyone describing my iAMP500/Wizzy setup as "dry" when playing my Bongos.

Hey, I'd surely be willing to give it a listen. I know a lot of people (some of whom I admire, and then there's you, too) who like the iAmp stuff a lot.

I got an iAmp 800 earlier in the year during my quest to find an amp that would have enough power and not require sherpas and a team of donkeys to move it.

It was certainly light and not lacking in power, but the tone wasn't me. I couldn't seem to get what I wanted out of it at all. I rehearsed with it, gigged it lightly, called it a day.

As with all equipment, everyone has different expectations. If it works for you, you know what I say - "Good for you!" I really wanted it to work for me, too...I think I wanted more 'grit', if you know what I mean.

The cabinet(s) can of course make all the difference in the world. Never tried a Wizzy.

I could sure get a funky near-upright tone out of the iAmp 800.

Hmm, I say the Mark. Its the amp of all amps for me.

I did the EA iAmp and loved it at first. Sadly, the more I played it, the less I liked it. I just prefer an amp with some flavor instead of a colorless amp like the iAmp.

So, out of all the above, Im still saying Markbass.

I had a Clarus and it sounded good but the knob layout is too cramped and it's underpowered.

One more amp you might want to consider is the Genz Benz Neo Pak 3.5. I'm looking to pick one of these up as soon as I get some dough.

I played with one at SOB. Impressive little amp. A little shy on the watts compared to the markbass but has a tube in the pre.

I would also strongly consider a GK MB150. Great sound from a tiny, lightweight box. I have gigged small rooms with it.

The older-model Eden WT-300 or 500 is a great amp. Great sound, 3-band parametric EQ, and 300w at 4 ohms. Mine powers Avatar 15" and 12" cabs, and has no trouble keeping up w/ an 8-piece funk band.

I'm looking forward to trying the Markbass amps.

One other option: the Mesa Walkabout head -- I played one that sounded really nice - very fat. I've heard a few reliability complaints on boards, but have no experience.

+1. I used this head with an SWR Triad for a very long time - awesome combo. The only reason I switched was because I wanted something more portable. Definitely look at these amps, and the price is reasonable as well for a used one. I had the WT-300.

I'm trying to think what a dry amp would sound like.

Like playing your bass through a mixing board! I'm personally a fan of "dry" amps - right now the Acme/QSC works with whatever preamp I happen to be using. Of course it depends on the gig. For a rock show, I would want an Ashdown or GK, but for funk/pop/electronica shows, I want total transparency. Just IMHO though!

I think Jack is using martini lingo :)

But anyway, the E on the eden lights up, I think that's pretty cool... but I havnt played any of those amps. My Wt400 is plenty small.

Here's a little scoop for you all...

At the NAMM show, Markbass will introduce a few new products, including the F1.

500W, 4.4 lbs, 1 rack space-- half the size of the Little Mark II!
4-band EQ, VLE & VPF, balanced line out, fx loop, user-friendly voltage change.
Solid state pre, digital power.

Check it out at NAMM if you can!!

Peter, I don't think I can make it to NAMM so maybe you better just send me one in Dallas so I can show it to all the other Texas guys.

I'll send it back.

No, really.
