Howdy!

I've recently bought a music man Axis! (Tabacco Burst). Its amazing. I noticed it comes with a few sets of springs, each with different sizes and numbers of springs.

Firstly, is it ok to play this full floating? I've done it, but i don't know what the reprocussions are so i'm iffy. I like the option of going high with the whammy, and feathering too ofcourse. Is this naughty?

Secondly, I left if out of the case, and the action went so low that all the strings were hitting the fretboard and making it sound like a rusty cheese wire. Why is this? Is it because the truss rod is so sensitive to temp. changes that it goes crazy? And what should I do to avoid this? I play in a metal band in the UK and like low action, but not that low.. heheh! It's scary when the guitar does things on its own!!

Hay mate welcome to the forum.

IMO you can set you guitar up like this and it should be fine, but some of the real experts (and there are real experts on this forum) will be able to let you know better.

Were there any big changes of temperature when you took your guitar out of the case......Maybe have to adjust the truss rod......or call customer services (who are excellent)

Keep posting here as it is a cool place to hang out.

the music man floyd rose is not designed from the factory to be a float style floyd rose. It is ment to sit flush on the body (no float) and be used for dive only. You can modify it to become a floating style but i have no experience with that so i wont comment on it.

I live in Canada, and know from experience that the unfinished necks on an EBMM can move quite a bit - a tweak of the truss rod is all that's needed to set things right, and that's easy enough with the EBMM system where you have the exposed truss rod wheel at the heel.

I've never tried to run the floyd as a floating trem, so have no idea what the possible consequences might be...

I have to tweak the rod on my guitar from time to time as the weather changes. Once you learn how to do it, it takes seconds to do and becomes second nature!

firstly,
adjusting the bridge to leaning forward a little to float will not hurt a thing......
secondly,
the neck needs to aclimate to the new climate......

a simple 1/8 to 1/2 turn counter clockwise on the most excellent & very user friendly truss rod sould put u where u wanna be......

At one time (early '90) I had one old RG 540, with Floyd that just dive and I can tell you that you can use it to up notes too.

Just a little tweak at the action and posts turns can do this.

Floating the trem even slightly may effect your action noticably. You may need to shim the neck if this is the case.

good luck
