I had my best luck finding them on eBay, and by searching through Guitar Center's used inventory. It's been made easier now that you can purchase any used guitar directly on the website.

I just picked one of these up in trans red with a rosewood fretboard. I am extremely curious as the amount that were made with the rosewood board. My luck though I also found an ASS in a great color I want so I might have to choose. So I might be putting mine on the selling block...I am unsure.

Would love more info on them though. So there were only 4 colors and the color made for the least amount of years was sunburst? And rosewood was only an option for a year and a half roughly?

I did get the one on ebay so I haven't gotten it yet. I just hate when I am looking and 2 or 3 good guitars pop up at the same time. I will probably end up keeping this one just for rarity sake. For me it was a no brainer as I really like rosewood and they come up so seldom.

There was a maple boarded red trans hardtail Axis on the GC used site two days ago for only $700 but it was gone by the time I called which was probably only a few hours after it hit the site.

So red is one of the harder to find colors? It seems purple is the rarest? I have only seen 3-4 rosewood models pictured on the internet and one is yours.

Sadly for you they are keepers! They will bury me with that red one!

just let me know where you are buried. LOL. I echo Tim's sentiment. My purple HT is by far the best EB I have owned and I love it more than my other guitars combined. Simply a perfect design bridging tone and comfort.

the red one that was in Denver was way too thrashed for me, even at that price.

This is the thread that always brings me back to these forums.

Here is the information I got about mine from the sticky thread here.

DOB: 09/23/97, red Axis, standard bridge, basswood body/ maple top, maple neck/ rosewood fretboard. Shipped to American Music, Seattle, WA.

Also, I wonder if the cheap one that was just listed at the GC was the same one from Denver. Maybe someone bought it up online and then returned it after realizing the condition.

How bad was the condition of that one? I seem to recall Jeremy(LUV) telling me a year ago that it was not worth what they were asking.I have a buddy who wants a "beater". As long as it is just cosmetically bad, he might want it.

All I saw was a photo and it looked fine but $799 is pretty low for a used Axis so I am thinking there might have been issues with it. In the ebay thread a few weeks back someone posted that a GC in Denver had one for $850 that apparently was pretty beat. I was just guessing that maybe someone ordered that one and then returned it to another GC. Either that or beat hard tail Axis's keep popping up at GC.

The one in Denver was the one I was referring to. I can't seem to find it on the GC "used" site. I might be interested in it if it plays well, but looks bad? Any help on this one would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not exaggerating when I said thrashed. I saw it in person and didnt even bother to play it. There was several big dents on the top. The back had probably a dozen big gashes and chips. I paid $950 for my used purple one which was mint. $799 for this was still way too much IMHO. Just clearly neglected and abused. I've been looking for a second for awhile and I had no reservations about passing it up.

Just arrived and it is in fantastic shape. Like brand new condition Came with the original case (with keys) and warranty information sheet. Oddly enough it came with two tremolo springs too...weird. The neck is insane. Great birdseye and incredibly fast. There is a reason I love Axis necks. All that said I am not sure I am in love with the trans red so I might end up trading or selling. The neck is so amazing I might live with a color I am not bonding with.

And here are the photos:
