they found it my neighbor freaking took it I get it back thursday due to a snow storm making the get-back a day further than usual I'm deliriously happy thanks to everyone especially Jack because without the serial numbers they never would've verified it.

Thanks so much.

:)

Hey, that's great news!! I can't believe it was your neighbor...how messed up is that?!

man i hope your a nicer guy than me. If my neighbor had stole one of my basses or anything for that matter, i would bust his face wide open.

a huge +1

I don't know him very well. It's ironic though, I live in a 6 apartment building (in apartment 5, the guy who did it was in 6), and when it happened, no claimed to have heard anything even though the walls are like paper thin; but he was the only guy in the entire building who was sympathetic.

Everyone else was like "yeah, s*** happens" and I was there like wow, really? seriously?
and he was there like "man, that sucks."

...and he took it and sold it to a pawn shop. they haven't found my computer yet, but I'm not nearly was worried. I have my bass back..

Oh Yeah....Who found it at the Pawn shop? Was it you or the Police? I guess it helps that you had a Desert Gold Bongo....it stands out! (I should know....I have one!!:D)

It's awesome that you have it back, what a lovely ending.

What an unbelievable a-hole! I can't believe that someone would steal from the person they live next to. "Love thy neighbor" indeed. This would definitely be a good wake-up call for renter's insurance though. It's relatively cheap and I wouldn't live in an apartment where I keep my instruments, my computer, my tv, etc. without it.

Good point. Listen, the reptile part of my brain responds the same way as many of you have responded: "Get even." But parse it out and get a grip on reality.

The person who steals from you is likely much more familiar with criminal activities than you are. He clearly has less ability to conform to societal norms and cares way less about the law and the consequences of breaking those laws.

We all want to punch thieves in the throat. Hardly any of us would consider it an even exchange if we were subsequently shot, stabbed, ambushed with a baseball bat/tire iron.

So: secure your homes, use your alarms, update your insurance and make sure you have your serial numbers recorded. And then let the criminal justice system have the asshat.

I should say that all bets are off if you encounter someone in the act. I have a much less reasonable attitude about that.

Let's be safe out there, folks.

I just hope he comes clean with my computers' wherabouts and where my harddrive went. Kinda... helpful stuff. And its not like two different people broke into my apartment on the same day, you know? lol.

but I really, I dont care as much about them. That bass, I bought it 4 years ago from you Jack (almost to the day/month - I bought it from you in March 06 I think), and I hadn't really played any other bass since and I hadn't really wanted to. Musically it was a part of me... and I'm just glad its coming back to my arms.

Jack, you probably have a point. Thieves & criminals generally have nothing to lose, which is why they do what they do. I guess "getting even" comes down to pressing charges, and therefore having something added to his record, which will suck for him if he ever applies for a good job. Most State & Federal government agencies will not hire you with a criminal record...let alone any reputable private sector business.

Yeah, I'd be charging him for theft. He'd be charging me for assault. I'd completely lose it, especially if it was my Ray. Ugh, I'm never leaving my apartment without locking the dead bolt again.

Congratulations on the safe return of your bass, I truly am happy to hear there was a happy ending :D
