Hi guys!

I'm new around here, but i'd like to have your opinions/help on this one...

I'm currently building a JP6 replica, still in the design phase.

I didn't have any blue prints whatsoever, nor did i have a real guitar to take the measurements from...

So, could you provide me with a few measurements?

I need pickup cavity depth (fixing holes and overall depth), and a neck profile (1st, 7th and 12th fret).

Here are the almost final 3D models

Any help will be gratly appreciated.

 Welcome, but your first post here is how to build your own Petrucci guitar?
You do realize that they want you to buy one, not build one. This is gonna get shut down quick.

Well, the fact that it costs about 2 grand it's a major upset...besides, i'm a DIY junkie, and since i can get the wood and manpower to build it for free, i decided to give it a try...

As you noticed, the neck will have a different construction method than the original JP6.

I wanted something really custom made.

Best of luck in your ventrue, I'm not armchair modding, I just think this taking money out of someone else's pocket, maybe try a music store and ask to take some measurements???

I get it man, that's cool and all, but you are walking into Wonka's factory looking for an everlasting gobstopper to give back to Slugworth.

I don't think they want that secret given out.

Agree with the other guys. I know it might be a little expensive for many but all it takes is a little work. I have to work and go to school full-time. I still managed to make some sacrifices to buy my JP.

This is unfair to BP and gang, they have put a lot of time in their product. I'll leave it at this and hope you can understand.

Good luck though

Well...yeah, in a way you might be right...but, since the measures i asked for, are based in non-music man items (except the neck, wich i don't know if the profile is copyrighted) such as dimarzio pickups...

Anyway, if it's against forum rules I apologise.

To whom who have the power, please act accordingly.

Uhhh. No.

If cost is an issue, check out the new STERLING by MUSICMAN line of instruments, including a JP model.

Metal,

In all fairness buddy, this is really a "funny" thread you started!!!

Metal, now stop and think - are you thinking????

Ok, do you really want the manufacturer or his customers to provide you with what is generally considered "confidential/copywrited" information?? (regardles of your own personal economic situation or personal hobbies, neither justifies your request).

Here's your chance!!!:)

Ok...

Let me say a few things in my defence...

I'm seeing all kinds of "dude what were you thinking and such"

First,

I'm NOT a professional guitar builder...in fact it's gona be my first attempt at building a stringed instrument. So, if any of the hard working staff at Music Man is thinking that i'm gonna steel some customers...don't!

Second, my mistake in asking this on Music Man home land...i assume, and i apologise.

However, if any of you would go to a DIY guitar forum, you would notice that any DIY instrument is unique in itself, since methods and aproaches on guitar building differ from luthier to luthier. So in a way, i'm not copying anything. I'm using Music man guitars as an inspiration.

You might say "Heck, your 3D model looks A LOT like a MM JP6"

Indeed it does, but that's due to the fact that i earn my living working with CATIA, the software i used to model it.

So, any resemblance is due to my professional skills.

It took me a lot of hours of reading, internet surfing, and discussion boards, to be able to do something that resembles a guitar. I could share my work and you would find in this guitar, a bit of Fender (neck heel and attachment), a bit of Ibanez (neck building method), and even some Gibson (body manufacturing)

So, if with all of this made some sense, i hope that you understand that my goal isn't to steal anything from MM or whoever.

I'm sorry if this was the wrong approach though.

Peace

I understand the desire to build your own guitar, but there is much more than just the design that comes with the price. The craftsmanship that the EB factory puts out is worth half the price alone.

Seriously, if the price tag is the real clincher, buy used. You'll be more satisfied than anything you could build. That's just my 2 cents, but I understand what you are trying to do to an extent. Building a guitar would be a blast for sure, I just question how the product would turn out (at least if I were doing it).

Sounds like a fun hobby to me.

Yes it can be.

I made myself a Warmoth guitar based on the now nonexistent AS MM90 left handed, Turned out really good and I use it a lot. Not going to show you pictures mind!!

I wasn't worried about making an accurate replica, so it won't be confused with an EBMM.

I'd prefer a real AS MM90....still looking on EBay

Dude, nice, you using Catia V5 R18? I just finished a job using that, about 3 years. I'm primarily a Pro/E guy, but if they need me I'll run any CAD program.

I thought the images you posted looked like CAD images. EBMM uses Pro/E, got to see their set up @ the Open House back in 2005, damn that seems like such a long time ago. :(

I think the point here is that there are copyright things and though you have the best of intentions, these types of things end up on Ebay (possibly) at some point and then WonderDog gets called in to deal with EBMM's legal issues.

Listen to BP (aka Sterling) make your guitar, just don't copy the headstock, reverse it, if you want it to be close to the same.

Good luck woth your project man. Glenn |B)
