Hi there.

Nice website very helpful.
I just got my first Stingray 5 second hand (best bass I've ever played) just wondered if maybe Dan or somebody could provide me with any info. The serial number is E44019 and its white with a black pickguard. I'd like to know when it was built and the wood used if possible.

many thanks

basslord, a warm welcome also! Your new-to-you StingRay 5 was completed on 12/02/04 and was originally shipped to the U.K. via Strings & Things Limited. The body wood on all StingRays made in this century have been pretty much all Southern ash. The neck of course is maple with a rosewood fretboard. Nice!

Dan, thank you so much (again, can't thank you enough) for the research you did on my bongo!

For the others: it turns out that only 2 Bongo's were made in a black sparkle finish, and I happen to have one:D

No problem at all - To be clear though, you have only 1 of 2 Bongo 4 HH's in Black Sparkle - I didn't research all the configurations in both 4 and 5 strings ;)

Hi Dan, welcome back.

Would like DOB for my new baby Bongo 4H please, serial number F08803.

I know it went to S&T in the UK 'cos that's where I found it and fell in love with it :D

Thanks!

This is the first time im posting in this forum. I have bought a used SR 4 at ebay Germany. Good price and the sound is hell. I want to ask you for the day of fabrication, because the seller told me it was 2003 - but i think it will be end of 2000. It is not really important, the bass is great, but i told the stingray my date of birth and so i think it will be fair to know his ones.
SR Nr. 17140, 3EQ, rosewood and the colour looks natur highgloss.
Hope You can do something for me
Thanx Armin

Hi everyone, I've just registered on the forum and am from the UK. Having owned tons of other basses, I realised I'm crazy about Sterlings and currently have two and will be picking up my third (a 2008 limited edition HH model) tomorrow.

I wondered if I could please get some information on the DOB of the following:

F01343

If I understand correctly, the 01 after F indicates it was born in 2001? That is the year I bought it here in the UK. Also, I'm wondering what wood it's made from as it feels somewhat heavier than my other one which I'll also want ID'ing in the future but I don't have it with me.

GD, you are correct - and it was built on Dec 8 2003. Sapphire Black/Abalone - nice combo!

Thx, Dan.
You're Welcome!

If a ernie ball music man does not say stingray... is it definatly not a stingray?
No, but it could be a Sterling, Bongo, or any number of other instruments we make. Do you have photos perhaps? Does it say Ernie Ball Music Man anywhere? Because if it doesn't - it isn't!

Sorry, i am stupid. Iforot the E of the SR number.
It is E 17140.
Armin

Armin, welcome, and leaving off the letter of a serial number makes you stupid, then what does that say about the rest of us knuckleheads? (SO - you are not stupid!)

Anyhow the correct build date of the bass in question is 11/29/2000 and it was originally shipped to Germany. The finish is called Amber Natural and I believe these were made exclusively for Musik Meyer, our German distributor, then sold throughout Germany and Austria.

Hope that is useful info - enjoy your bass!
