Do you have any information on a fretted White Stingray with maple neck B021860?

Hi Jim.

Records don't exist for the early Basses. I need to know if your Bass is an Ernie Ball or Pre-EB to give you some kind of idea when it was made as both these instruments used the "Bxxxxxx" serial numbers.

As said in another post above:

A Pre-EB Bass has 3 dot markers past the 12th fret and the string retainer is on the D&G strings. An EB (Ernie Ball) Bass has 4 dot markers past the 12th fret and the retainer is on the A&D strings. Some very early EB Basses don't have "Ernie Ball" on the headstock.

Stingray 5 # E17809 - Do you know what the body wood is? It's finished in blue pearl so I can't see the woodgrain. This one was done on 11/2/00 and it's most likely Ash

SUB 5 # X12952 - Does this bass have an alnico pickup? DOB: 7/7/08 and you are correct about the pickup

This come us as a StingRay 4 that was done on 7/2/02 and the color is Blue Dawn

I mixed it up because it´s my dad´s stingray bass. It was built around 1980, not 1960. I am sure it´s a Pre-EB.

Ok, thanks Jim. As said elsewhere, there's no official records in existance for Pre-EB Basses. My lists would place B021860 at around 1983 especially if it has a 4 bolt neck and topp load bridge. However, serials are not necessarily chronological. Dates are located on the neck heel and in the neck pocket on the body. The neck has to be removed to view them but most usually don't want to go to that extent.

Hi Tobi. If it's a Pre-EB then your serial is consistent with 1983 but, as I said to Jim in the post above, official serial records don't exist and serials can be out of order. Dates are located on the neck heel and in the neck pocket on the body. The neck has to be removed to view them but your Dad may not want to go to that extent.
