eric.

Ernie Ball Used "B" serials on their early Basses (the same as the Pre-EB serials).

If "Ernie Ball" appears on the headstock logo then it's obviously an EB Bass and should be a vintage mid 1988.

In the absence of "Ernie Ball" appearing on the logo, then check the number of dot markers past the 12th fret. EB will have four. Pre-EB has three. Also check the position of the string retainer. With EB, it will be on the A and D strings as opposed the Pre-EB which was on the D and G.

If it's an EB Bass and, in the absence of an official date of birth from EB, then in my opinion, the neck date is to be treated as the date of your Bass. In the case of the body date preceeding the date of the neck then, in my opinion, the neck date is still to be treated as the date of your Bass.

If you don't wish to remove the neck and it's an EB Bass, then remove the control plate. Pretty sure by this time a sticker was attached to the bass pot. The sticker has a date but this is only the date the pre-amp was made and not the Bass. However, this will give an accurate date (within a couple of month) as to when the Bass was put together.

DOB, please....

Bongo5 HHp, F13843, shipped sometime in the August/Sept. 2005 timeframe from the factory to BassCentral.

TIA.

This beautiful Bongo Bass was completed on 9/22/05 and sent on its way to the fabled Orlando bass store.

Where is the serial number located on my pre-2000 stingray?

Hossinn, in 1997 we switched from putting the serial number on the bridges of the basses to putting them on the neck plates. So if your serial number isn't on the neck plate, it is on the bridge, and it was built in 1997 or before.

Hi guys. I just purchased a Stingray. They said it was new, but someone said they saw the same bass at the same shop nearly 3 years ago. Here's the serial: E26694

Any info you could give is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

wavesurfer, your bass was completed on on 12/5/01 and was originally shipped to the Music Center in Bridgeport, West Virginia, where it has (believe it or not) never been sold! I have talked to George and the guys over there many times, and they have always been perplexed by that - they have had many others come and go, but that one seemed not to want to go. I am glad that you got it, I'm sure it's a gem!

We show it as having a candy red finish with a maple fretboard. It also went out with a tortoise shell pickguard.

You should register it online here: http://www.ernieball.com/mmonline/registration/ as it has a full factory warranty still.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Dan!

George told me it has been in the shop for a while, but didn't know the date of it.

BTW, that Lab in your avatar is GORGEOUS!

Any chance I can add my 'ray in the database?

Serial #: A01118
