Gav, yes, unless there was a stray one that escaped, all of the Las Vegas Gold and Gunsmoke finishes were made in 2001. In fact, It appears that the last 3 StingRays made in Las Vegas Gold were shipped to Australia on 9/19/01. ;)

Hi, am the proud new owner of a StingRay 5 (very gently used - near mint) that I just received today... S/N is E13802, can anyone give me any info on the bass (build date, color, etc.). I am pretty sure that it is Egyptian Smoke, but am not positive... it is kind of hard to tell based on the various pix I've seen of that color. The back of the neck has a beautiful birdseye maple pattern as well...

Thanks, Danny

Actually, Danny, the color is Pearl Platinum, a color we discontinued in 2001 in favor of the ill-fated Gunsmoke color (see a couple of posts up). The production date of your new bass is 4/18/00 and we show it as having a rosewood board with a painted headstock. Congratulations on your new bass!

Hello everyone! I finally recently joined the band :), and would like to know about my Bongo5 - F09350.

Thanx!

kayneex, congrats and welcome the the Ernie Ball Big Band! Your delicous Bongo 5 was completed on 12/17/03. It has a Desert Gold finish and it had a white ice pickguard when it left here.

mobis,

Your bass was completed on 10/04/00. Regarding the woods we use: It is very possible your body be made of poplar, but it is more likely made of Southern ash. We are using pretty much all Southern ash.these days. We used some alder in the 80's to about 1997, but only on the trans red finish for the most part. In the latter part of the 90's we used both poplar and ash for the opaque instruments, and of course ash on the translucent ones. By the turn of the century we had gone using mostly ash on the opaque bodies as well.
